No one has done more to damage the Democrats in the eyes of the public than their own party, because it is beholden to its most radical members.
There is a reason voters see Democrats as the party of chaos. They align with the far-left wing of their party on issues that most Americans find insane. Instead of moderating their views, their strategy is to appropriate President Donald Trump’s successful campaign playbook as their own. However, it won’t help them like it did Trump because Democrats lack essential conditions that helped Trump overcome.
Senate Democrats blocked legislation to bar transgender athletes from girls’ and women’s sports on March 3, despite this being an issue 80% of Americans support. In January, The New York Times/Ipsos polling showed an overwhelming majority of Americans do not believe male athletes should be allowed to compete in women’s sports. To counteract the backlash from 80% of the country, Democrats are trying to claim that it’s not that they agree that women should be forced to share teams, locker rooms, and bathrooms with men, but that it’s not an issue that the federal government should handle. It should be left to the states.
During the 2024 election, Democrats tried (but failed) to make abortion the top issue for voters (especially women) entering the ballot box. They hoped if the narrative were that Republicans planned to make abortion illegal, American women would turn out in droves to protect their “right” to kill their unborn children. While women were more likely to support former Vice President Kamala Harris over Trump, he gained back the support he lost to Hillary Clinton, who won the female vote by 13 points in 2016 and former President Joe Biden by 15 points in 2020. Harris won the female vote by just 10 points in 2024.
Voters found that the scourge of mass illegal immigration and the failing economy ranked much higher on their list than abortion. A lot of Trump’s success among women came from the way he framed his policies on abortion. Trump touted his success with getting Roe v. Wade overturned through his Supreme Court nominations, while ensuring that voters knew that abortion was a state issue. Under his administration, abortion would not be regulated by the federal government, which included ending taxpayer funded abortion and refusing to sign legislation that banned it nationally.
His stance disappointed most pro-life activists, but it allowed him to give full authority to each state to determine how to handle the issue according to its voters’ wishes. Still, this move was so successful in changing the narrative for Republicans because the Democrats had been failing on so many issues, such as parental rights, the economy, illegal immigration, etc., that it gave him the runway to make voters focus on other things. Democrats do not have this on the issue of transgender athletes. Not only is Trump enjoying the highest approval rating of his political career, but most of his policies are as well. In fact, the only policy that Americans disagree with Trump on is him changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, but that is never going to be a ballot box issue.

It seems as if Democrats are acting like the kid in class who didn’t study for the test, so are compensating by looking at the smart kid’s answer sheet.
“Oh this worked for Trump on abortion, so it should work for us on this social issue too!”
Except it’s doomed to fail because unlike abortion which is mainly just a “women’s issue,” the transgender issue affects single women, fathers, mothers, grandmothers, grandparents, husbands, and boyfriends who do not want men in women’s spaces.
The small handful of trans athletes in PA in a political maelstrom deserve an ally and I am one.
Depersonalized as “they/them” in a political ad, but are just schoolchildren.
Empty show votes or cruelty on social media aren’t part of a thoughtful, dignified solution.

There is a broader demographic who see the rise in transgender ideology as an evil, than those who make abortion their single top issue. Even 67% of Democrats agree with Republicans that men should not play in women’s sports. Democrats cannot say “let the local governments decide” and expect 80% of Americans to agree, especially not when they look at how blue states and cities are handling the transgender issue. Whether Democrats like it or not, their allegiance to the far-left wing of their party is well documented and their recent move to vote against legislation that would have protected women and girls is yet another blight on their record. Any attempt to, other than a complete 180 policy reversal on this issue, will fall flat among voters. Stealing Trump’s homework isn’t going to erase their failing grade.
