Longtime New York Rep. Jerry Nadler recently announced he will not run for reelection in 2026, leaving the perfect opportunity for several prominent Democrat families to throw their children into the political ring.
Among those rumored to be taking a look at the open congressional seat are Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, and Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday.
Despite reports that claim Chelsea Clinton is running, a spokesman for her says the Democrat darling is not planning on jumping into the ring for Nadler’s soon-to-be vacant seat, according to Rachel Schilke, a reporter with the Washington Examiner.
“‘There’s no truth to this,’ the spox said, after news reports emerged yesterday [Tuesday] that she was weighing a bid,” Schilke reported.
Newsy: A spox for Chelsea Clinton tells me she is NOT considering a run for Jerry Nadler’s seat.

It’s hard to believe that the Clintons are giving up a chance at what Ken Sunshine, a public relations executive and longtime friend of Nadler, calls “a crown jewel” of New York politics. (Sign up for Mary Rooke’s weekly newsletter here!)
Hillary Clinton claimed she wasn’t going to run again before turning around and doing just that. After she lost to former President Barack Obama in the Democratic primary for president, Hillary Clinton told the world she would not be running for president. In fact, she was on record more than once between 2012 and 2013 promising that the Democratic Party would not have Clinton’s name on the ticket.
In 2015, she ran for president again, this time winning the Democratic nomination, but famously losing to President Donald Trump in the 2016 general election.
Maybe Chelsea Clinton won’t run and look for power in other ways, like Democrat megadonor George Soros’s son, Alexander Soros. She could have learned from her mother’s failed attempts at running for elected office, finding it much easier to pull strings behind the scenes through the Clinton Foundation. Or this could all be a ruse. She’s just biding her time, collecting support and donations from her fellow Upper West Siders until it seems inevitable she will take the crown. Either way, this seat hasn’t been vacant in decades, and Democrats will want to ensure whoever takes the seat will toe the party line.
