Three months after making headlines for leaving the United States behind and relocating to Ireland, Rosie O’Donnell has resurfaced — and she’s ready to relaunch her entertainment career in a major way.
The 63-year-old comedian, actress, and former talk show host is returning to her stand-up comedy roots with a brand-new show, set to premiere in Dublin this summer.
A Bold Move Across the Pond
O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January 2025 with her 12-year-old child, Clay.

At the time, her sudden departure shocked many fans and critics alike, but for O’Donnell, the decision was about family and quality of life.
“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” she told Variety in a recent interview.

“People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”
In typical Rosie fashion, she added a humorous touch to her adjustment to life in Ireland:
“People are much more friendly and intimate with each other in a real way,” she explained. “Every time I go into the pharmacy, I fall in love, because the pharmacist talks to you. Have you ever spoken to a pharmacist at CVS?”
She jokingly told her friends, “I think the pharmacist has a crush on me,” before concluding, “But it’s a beautiful way of life. The smallness of this nation fits me very well.”
‘Common Ground’: Rosie’s Big Comeback
O’Donnell’s upcoming stand-up show, titled Common Ground, is scheduled for Sunday, July 27th at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre.
This marks her first major comedy performance in nearly a decade, and early buzz suggests it could be a major turning point in her career.
“Now living in her newly adopted hometown of Dublin, Rosie reflects on the move, the culture shift, family life, and the humbling and hilarious realization that maybe you don’t have it all figured out,” reads the show’s official description.

An industry insider told In Touch Weekly that O’Donnell’s comeback may also be a subtle jab at longtime rival Ellen DeGeneres, who similarly fled America and moved to England.
“Rosie has fully written and test-performed a new hour-long stand-up set, and she’s going to put it to film in the coming months,” the source revealed. “I guess the headline is that it’s a lot like Ellen’s special, except it’s funny!”
The insider continued, “Rosie still has a swagger and still has real comedy chops, and thankfully, in her new material she doesn’t come across as bitter or defensive. She’s just trying to make people laugh and she’s doing it by being herself.”
According to the source, audiences are more receptive to O’Donnell than to DeGeneres these days.
“The bottom line is Rosie has more friends than Ellen does, and people are really rooting for Rosie as she finally gets back to her standup roots!”
Leaving the U.S. Behind
O’Donnell first announced her move to Ireland in a TikTok video posted in March, where she spoke candidly about her decision to leave the U.S. behind.
“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming,” she said. “And I’m very grateful.”

She added, “I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are.”
A week later, she admitted the transition hasn’t been entirely seamless.
“It’s not easy to move to another country, and we really felt as a family this was the safest and best thing for us to do,” she shared in a follow-up TikTok video.

Despite the challenges, O’Donnell seems reinvigorated and ready for this new chapter — personally and professionally.
As she prepares to take the stage once again, fans and critics alike are watching closely to see whether this gamble will pay off.
With her bold humor, undeniable stage presence, and a fresh perspective from her Irish surroundings, Rosie O’Donnell might just be ready for a second act — and this time, it’s on her own terms.
