According to the New York City Fire Department, a total of 19 individuals — including nine student-athletes, eight additional students, and two coaches — were in or around the vessel when it overturned shortly after noon.
Emergency responders received a 911 call at approximately 12:15 p.m. local time. A nearby civilian boat assisted in bringing all individuals ashore at a location known as Rodman’s Neck.
Fordham University issued a statement confirming the details of the incident and emphasizing that no injuries were sustained.

The university shared in a statement with People:
“Fordham can confirm that nine members of the men’s club rowing team were pulled from the water after their boat capsized due to a sudden shift in weather conditions on Eastchester Bay. New York City regulations required that the nine student-athletes, and the eight additional students and two coaches who helped them, be taken to area hospitals for examination because the party came ashore on city property at Rodman’s Neck. There were no injuries, and all of the individuals involved were examined and released.”
The NYPD Emergency Service Unit and the NYPD Harbor Unit also responded to the scene. The incident occurred during what was described as a typically cloudy and rainy early spring day in the city.
Fordham lost one rowing vessel during the incident, according to the university. Eastchester Bay, a common training location for Fordham’s crew team, is usually selected for its relatively calm waters and the lack of commercial shipping traffic.
Other areas the team uses for practice include the Hutchinson River and Long Island Sound.
The Fordham rowing team is expected to resume competition this coming weekend in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, as part of the annual Knecht Cup Regatta.
The team has a long history at the university, with rowing first introduced at Fordham in 1915.
Aside from interruptions during wartime, the program has operated continuously since 1957, producing 10 undefeated crews and earning 20 national championships over its history.
