Sanctuary City Mayors Set to Explain That VooDoo That They Do to Congress

This should be entertaining, although, as none of what they do makes sense, it might not really be illuminating and could also be maddening.

James Comer and his House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have invited four of the foremost Sanctuary City mayors – Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York – to testify before the committee today to explain the whats and why of their policies and defiance of federal immigration statutes.

Today sanctuary city mayors, Eric Adams of NYC, Michelle Wu of Boston, Mike Johnston of Denver and Brandon Johnson of Chicago are testifying in front of Congress regarding their sanctuary city policies.

Savanah has a little primer on the human cost to the legal residents and citizens of their respective cities in her Xweet.

The New York Times expects the questioning to be ‘withering’ and the proceedings to be fiery.

The Democratic mayors of New York, Denver, Boston and Chicago are facing withering scrutiny on Wednesday from House Republicans, who are accusing them of thwarting President Trump’s deportation efforts and putting their residents in harm’s way.

Mr. Trump has threatened to withhold federal money from jurisdictions he deems uncooperative with his immigration enforcement plans, and he recently filed a lawsuit accusing leaders in Chicago of thwarting his policies. The mayors are being forced to walk a fine line, defending their cities’ sanctuary policies while trying to avoid viral moments that could be used to attack them and other Democrats in future campaigns.

Here’s what we’re covering:

The committee: Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform are echoing Mr. Trump’s attacks during the hearing. The committee, which is led by James Comer and stocked with Republican firebrands including Jim Jordan, Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, promoted the mayors’ appearance with a sizzle reel set to dramatic music and video clips of tent cities, criminals with guns and the Declaration of Independence up in flames.

I’d have to assume the brilliant Michelle Wu of Boston anticipated a grueling session, too, as she sought some outside help prior to this appearance to boost her memory banks.

For all these cities are in desperate straights money-wise, it is kind of amazing how they can find extra bucks to blow in a big way when some politician needs them.

I remember when Ebola wasn’t doing his homework, and we got soaked for $625 for Sylvan to babysit him to do it – and he still didn’t.

Mayor Wu, judging by what she had the city of Boston fork out for a tutoring session about the city, which Mayor Wu *checks notes* literally runs, is a very special flower as far as the babysitting she requires.

Boston @MayorWu is spending $650,000 of taxpayer dollars to prep for her DC trip to defend Boston’s dangerous sanctuary city policies.

Boston taxpayers get nothing but the bill.

At least it will be entertaining to watch her get ripped apart in front of a national audience. https://t.co/tCtiM5FCKt pic.twitter.com/rCtSNlJ6dr

Bostonians – still trying to shake themselves back to earth after the shock of Wu’s earnest condolences to the family of a man killed in the act of attacking diners at a Chik-Fil-A by an off-duty cop – do seem to have a problem with the tab for ‘prepping’ the preppy progressive.

So the city had nothing better to do with that money other than tell Wu how to answer questions ? It will be a waste, she will panic and pull out the race card

Of course, they do say everything is bigger out West and so is the bill for prep. It’s costing Denver $2M to get their feisty chief executive Mike Johnston up to snuffling versus what Boston forked over.

Sure sounds like Kyle Clark is part of the $2 million advisory team Denver taxpayers hired to coach Mayor Johnston for today’s congressional oversight committee on sanctuary city policies. #copolitics #coleg https://t.co/78hqKP9OL6

Again, as much as he’s whined poverty and larped as a defender of the sick, tired, and poor over the past year, you would think he’d have every penny memorized.

How pathetically stupid are they?

Okay.

Never mind.

Chicago’s Bear-of-Little-Brains even had cheat sheets printed up for his supporters to read ‘validating points’ from were they ever to be asked about Hizzoner’s weighty testimony.

The Brandon Johnson “Validator” memo, based on what the mayor is expected to say today, has been circulated for the last several days prepping friendlies how to respond to the congressional hearings.

…So much effort trying to stick to the narrative when a simple, truthful answer would suffice: Johnson favors criminal noncitizens over everyone else!

Seriously.

So far, Wu, in her finest Ash Wednesday forehead, has managed a fiery ‘Shame on him for lying about my city‘ when asked about Tom Homan’s Boston comments.

Denver’s mayor has gone biblical…in quotes, not tone. Yet.

With the hearing taking place on Ash Wednesday, Mayor Mike Johnston of Denver infused faith into his opening statement about immigration policy. He quoted the Book of Matthew in discussing his city’s response to the arrival of 42,000 migrants: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.”

Dapper Eric Adams just wants to be pleasant and cooperative enough that someone will drop his criminal case.

Outside hearing room, Mayor Eric Adams walks a political tight rope on sanctuary city laws.

Hizzoner says he wants to explain how the city already helps federal law enforcement while not staunchly defending or speaking out against the policy

Brandon Johnson perfects his bear-in-the-headlights look.

His tough luck Chicago didn’t have money for more than a colonoscopy prep. But, you know, with Johnson?

I’ll bet that’s going to prove maybe even more helpful than those pricey lawyers other cities paid for before the day is through.

Those aren’t cheap chairs, and they have to be a nightmare to clean.
