Search Intensifies for Missing Long Island Woman After She Jumped Out of Moving Vehicle

Authorities and volunteers are continuing an extensive search for a missing Long Island woman who disappeared after jumping from a moving vehicle and running into a wooded area in Oyster Bay, as reported by The New York Post.

Brittany Kritis-Garip, 32, was last seen on surveillance footage around 8 p.m. Friday in the Oyster Bay hamlet, according to reports.

Her husband, Fernando Garip, said she exited the vehicle in what he described as a panicked state, leaving behind her phone, which was later found in a bush.

He said she was wearing black pants and a black jacket with a fur collar when she ran from the area.

“We’ve been combing wooded areas, rural areas, suburban areas, everything. So we’re just asking for the public’s help here. We really need the public’s help to locate her,” Garip said Sunday.

“We’re going to be at this until she’s home. I don’t care what we have to do, what needs to be done,” he added.

Search efforts have expanded over several days, with volunteers focusing on a one-mile stretch of marshy shoreline near Oyster Bay Harbor after Kritis-Garip’s wallet was discovered along a road leading to the water.

Sarah Castor, a friend helping coordinate the search, said time remains a critical factor in locating the missing woman.

“While law enforcement is actively involved, time is critical,” Castor wrote in a fundraising post aimed at supporting additional search efforts.

Castor said funds raised would be used to hire a private investigator to help “canvass areas more extensively” and “review and track leads more quickly.”

The Nassau County Police Department has deployed additional resources in the search, including aerial units such as a helicopter and drones, particularly in areas near the East Norwich–Oyster Bay border.

Volunteers have been urged to search a wide range of locations where Kritis-Garip could have sought shelter, including sheds, garages, pool houses, under decks and porches, beneath boat covers, and in wooded or marshy terrain.

Residents and business owners in the area have also been asked to review security camera footage for any possible sightings.

Kritis-Garip is described as a white woman with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 5-foot-7 in height and weighing about 140 pounds.

According to Castor, those involved in the search believe she may be in a vulnerable condition.

“We believe she was disoriented and frightened, and may think she is in danger,” Castor said. “She is not dangerous — she needs help.”

Friends and family continue to appeal to the public for assistance as the search continues.

“Brittany is deeply loved. We are doing everything we can to find her — and we are so grateful for your support,” Castor added.
