The exodus of forty-nine white Afrikaners from South Africa to American soil has liberals in a tizzy. Granted, these refugees are unusual. They’re families with women and children fleeing real ethnic persecution, not able-bodied young men seeking economic plunder. South Africa’s government is none too happy about the arrangement either.
Nothing proves the Afrikaners’ refugee claim more than the statement issued by the African National Congress (ANC) rejecting the “falsehood” of the Afrikaners’ refugee claim — a statement apparently approved by the party’s own Joseph Stalin.

“Let it be categorically stated: there are no Afrikaner refugees in South Africa,” the press release posted to X reads. “No section of our society is hounded, persecuted or subject to ethnic victimisation.” Hounding, persecution, and ethnic victimization sound like an apt description of what South Africa is doing to its Afrikaner population. But far be it from me to question Mangaliso ‘Stalin’ Khonza, the ANC’s National Communications Manager. The ANC’s statement directs media inquiries to Khonza. Khonza includes the nickname on his Linkedin profile. He can also be found as “stalin873” on Instagram.

The content of the ANC’s message is no less disturbing than the nickname of their messenger. Most disturbing is this line: “What the instigators of this falsehood seek is not safety, but impunity from transformation. They flee not from persecution, but from justice, equality and accountability for historic privilege.” (RELATED: Liberals Have Finally Found A Group Of Refugees They Don’t Want)
“Accountability” is a frightening euphemism. It would seem to involve, at the very least, stealing the Afrikaners’ land out from under them. Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa and the ANC, seized a ranch worth millions of dollars from two white farmers in 2018, according to South Africa’s City Press newspaper. The owners of the farm, Johan Steenkamp and Arnold Cloete, offered the government the equivalent of $13.7 million for the land. The government countered with a measly $1.37 million offer, breaking down negotiations, before issuing a letter of notice demanding the farmers hand over the keys to the farm within seven days, according to Newsweek. Ramaphosa defended the move: “This is necessary to correct a past wrong. It is also necessary to ensure a fair and prosperous future for all.”
Ramaphosa scorned the forty-nine Afrikaner refugees. “When you run away, you’re a coward,” he told a reporter. “And that’s a real cowardly act.”
South Africa’s government could hardly make a stronger case for the Afrikaners’ refugee claim if they tried. It’s awfully hard to give Stalin the benefit of the doubt.
