The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm Emil Bove as a Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge.
The Senate voted 50-49 to confirm Trump’s former lawyer, with one senator not voting, according to the chamber’s roll call. Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Republican Maine Sen. Republican Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa issued a statement of support for the nominee hours before the vote, NBC News reported. “He has a strong legal background and has served this country honorably. I believe he will be diligent, capable and a fair jurist,” the senator said.
The Senate voted to move forward with Bove’s nomination July 24. Murkowski and Collins both joined their Democratic colleagues in voting against advancing the nominee to a final confirmation vote. Democrats had opposed Bove’s nomination, with several senators walking out of a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting on the matter July 17.
The newly confirmed judicial nominee previously held the post of the Department of Justice’s acting deputy attorney general. Mainstream media outlets called Bove the president’s “enforcer” in headlines.
