Lurie, a political newcomer and heir to the Levi Strauss fortune, positioned himself as a fierce critic of the city’s handling of public safety, vowing a tougher approach to San Francisco’s spiraling issues, as reported by Fox News.

Lurie’s campaign took aim at what he called the “lawlessness” plaguing San Francisco, boldly stating, “It is time to end the perception that lawlessness is an acceptable part of life in San Francisco.”
I’m deeply grateful to my incredible family, campaign team, and every San Franciscan who voted for accountability, service, and change. Lurie also emphasized a commitment to revamping the city’s justice system by enforcing consequences for criminals and reinstating accountability in governance. His strong stance evidently resonated with voters—Lurie led Breed with 56.2% of the vote, while Breed garnered 43.8%.
After years of San Francisco residents watching their city struggle under surging budgets and rising crime rates, Lurie assured the public it’s time for “clean and safe streets for all.”
He’s not all talk; Lurie laid out a plan to create 1,500 new shelter beds within six months and build 2,500 tiny homes to address the homelessness crisis. Additionally, Lurie aims to deploy more police on foot patrols in high-crime areas and eradicate open-air drug markets.
“After years of record-high budgets, worse outcomes, and more excuses, San Franciscans are ready for change,” Lurie declared. The urgency in his message reflects a city that’s clearly weary of empty promises and frustrated by a perceived lack of action from its leaders.
Breed, who described her time as mayor as “the greatest honor of my lifetime,” took to social media to congratulate Lurie and promised a smooth transition of power.
Being Mayor of San Francisco has been the greatest honor of my lifetime. I’m beyond grateful to our residents for the opportunity to serve the City that raised me. “At the end of the day, this job is bigger than any one person and what matters is that we keep moving this City forward,” she posted. In her message, she expressed her commitment to supporting the transition, reflecting her acknowledgment of the city’s needs and her respect for the democratic process.
