The suspect accused of plowing a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old resident of Houston, Texas.
The attack, which left at least 10 people dead and 35 injured, ended with Jabbar being shot and killed by police after crashing his vehicle and firing at officers.
According to a high-level source familiar with the investigation, who was not authorized to speak publicly, law enforcement recovered several weapons from the scene, including a Glock handgun and a .308 caliber rifle equipped with optics and a sensor.

The agency’s statement indicated that the vehicle contained not only the firearms but also potential improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter,” the FBI noted.
Law enforcement is working to determine Jabbar’s connections to terrorist organizations and to identify any other individuals involved in the attack.
In the immediate aftermath, authorities believe that at least four to five other suspects may have been involved in the incident, though further details are still under investigation.
The FBI is focusing on understanding the suspect’s potential affiliations with terrorist groups, particularly after finding the ISIS flag and the weaponry inside his vehicle.
Pro-ISIS media outlets had previously called for attacks during the New Year’s Eve period, urging Muslims in the U.S. and Europe to take action.
These calls for violence have been a recurring theme over the last decade, with terror groups using holidays as opportunities to incite violent extremists.
This tragic event, which unfolded in one of the most well-known tourist destinations in New Orleans, has left the city in shock and has raised concerns over security during public celebrations.
Local authorities have urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant as the investigation continues.
As the FBI leads the effort to uncover more details about the attack, including the suspect’s potential ties to terrorist groups, the New Orleans Police Department and other law enforcement agencies continue to assess the situation and prevent further threats.
