Podcast host Joe Rogan criticized the recent all-female Blue Origin space flight during a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” questioning the purpose of the highly publicized 11-minute journey that briefly touched the edge of space.

The Blue Origin flight, which reached an altitude of 66 miles before returning to Earth, carried six high-profile passengers: singer Katy Perry, media personality Lauren Sanchez, CBS host Gayle King, filmmaker Kieranne Flynn, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen.

The flight took place on Monday and was marketed as a historic all-female mission.

During the podcast episode aired Saturday, Rogan and comedian Tim Dillon reacted to the flight with sarcasm, questioning whether the brief suborbital trip warranted the attention it received.

“It was very profound. I don’t know if you’ve seen Katy Perry talk about it, but she’s basically a guru now,” Rogan said, referencing Perry’s post-flight interviews.

The criticism centered around Perry in particular, who has faced widespread backlash online for her behavior before and after the mission.

Upon landing, she kissed the ground and described the trip as “a supernatural journey” while addressing the media.

Rogan mocked Perry for bringing a daisy with her on the flight, commenting on the plant’s still-fresh appearance as evidence of the trip’s brevity.

“It shows you how quick the flight was, the dead daisy that’s snipped from its life source was still alive,” Rogan said.

Dillon also chimed in on the short duration, joking, “They were up there what? 10 minutes?” Rogan responded sarcastically, “Let’s not minimize this. Let’s celebrate female astronauts.”

The pair compared the Blue Origin crew to real astronauts, such as Suni Williams, who recently returned from spending nearly a year aboard the International Space Station.

Williams reportedly showed physical effects from her extended mission, including greying hair and weight loss.

“[These women] seem fine though,” Dillon remarked, pointing to the contrast.

Rogan responded again with mock solemnity, “Let’s not minimize the sacrifice they’ve made for a great nation, for the world, in fact. They’re profoundly different now.”

Rogan suggested that praise for the flight may come across as patronizing, especially when compared to the backgrounds of traditional astronauts, many of whom have military or engineering experience.

He pointed to Perry’s pre-flight remarks about her “scientific preparation,” which included listening to Cosmos by Carl Sagan and reading about string theory.

“I’ve always been interested in astrophysics and interested in astronomy and astrology and the stars,” Perry said in an interview. “We are all made of stardust, and we all come from the stars.”

Dillon asked, “What were her findings? That’s my question. What did she learn?”

Rogan replied, “She brought a daisy, which was super important.”

Perry’s response to the backlash has reportedly been emotional.

A source told DailyMail.com that Perry was unprepared for the criticism and felt “stunned” by people labeling her “tone deaf” and “embarrassing.”

“Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life-changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it,” the source said.

Wendy’s, the fast-food chain, even joined in the online reaction, replying to a post on X with a call to “Can we send her back” to space.

Perry defended the mission during an interview with Good Morning America, stating that the flight was not just symbolic.

“We weren’t just taking up space, we were making space for the future,” she said.

“It wasn’t a destination, it was a journey, and it was a supernatural one… my journey has always been about love and belonging.”

The Blue Origin trip has sparked mixed reactions across social media and media outlets, with some hailing the flight’s significance and others questioning its relevance given the short flight time and lack of scientific purpose.
