In the latest political spat, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) took aim at Fox News host and former congressman Trey Gowdy with a fiery midnight post on X (formerly Twitter).
As reported by Mediaite, Mace suggested Gowdy, who once represented South Carolina in Congress, might be transgender—a jab that quickly set conservative circles ablaze.
The exchange began after Gowdy commented on the chaos surrounding the GOP-led government shutdown debate.

During a segment on Fox News, Gowdy defended House Speaker Mike Johnson, arguing that the turmoil wasn’t Johnson’s fault but rather a symptom of a “dysfunctional family” within the Republican caucus.
“Mike Johnson is not dysfunctional, but several of his family members happen to be,” Gowdy quipped, taking a dig at some GOP members.
He then specifically called out Mace for her recent vote against a Republican-sponsored bill, noting, “Nancy Mace would not be in the House if it weren’t for Donald Trump, and she can’t vote the way that he asked her to today? I hope he’s got as long a memory for House members as he does Senators that even threaten to not support one of his nominees.”
Speaker of the house Mike Johnson screwed up big time! A lot of Rino s in the (Rep) Republican Party and Trey Gowdy looks like to be another one! So many Swamp creatures!

Mace, never one to hold back, unleashed a two-part response. In her first post, she declared, “You let Hillary Clinton off the hook for Benghazi. Sit your ass back down.”
I have a message for Trey Gowdy: You let Hillary Clinton off the hook for Benghazi. Sit your ass back down.

The reference to Gowdy’s role as chair of the Benghazi Committee reignited debates over the outcome of that investigation.
Mace followed up with an even sharper barb, posting an old photo of Gowdy alongside the caption, “Which bathroom do we think Trey Gowdy uses?”
The insinuation set off a firestorm of reactions across social media and political punditry.

This latest dust-up showcases Mace’s knack for stirring the pot and her willingness to clash with figures even within her own ideological sphere. While some conservatives found her remarks amusing, others criticized her for escalating tensions during a critical moment for the GOP.
As Republicans grapple with internal divisions, spats like this underscore the challenges facing the party as it seeks to unify its message and move forward.
