At least six people were injured Thursday in a shooting incident on the campus of Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida.

As Fox News reported, the situation prompted an immediate lockdown, with university police responding to what they described as an “active scene” and urging those on campus to shelter in place.

Law enforcement vehicles parked on the side of the street on FSU campus.

According to law enforcement, one individual is currently in custody. Officials have not confirmed whether the person is the suspected shooter.

Ben Veytsman, a sophomore at FSU, told Fox News Digital that he had just finished a therapy appointment in the Thagard Building, near the student union, when he heard a “popping” sound.

Law enforcement blocks off the entrance to FSU campus on Call Street in Tallahassee, Florida.

Veytsman said he initially thought it was an altercation between two individuals, but quickly realized it was more serious when a student ran by shouting about a school shooting.

“It didn’t feel real to me. It felt like I was enacting a school shooter drill,” Veytsman said. He sheltered in a staff lounge before eventually being allowed to return home.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X that her office was in contact with university officials and said, “The FBI is on the scene at Florida State and we are in communication with agents on the ground. Our priority is the safety of everyone involved.”

Another FSU student, Cole Summers, recounted hearing gunshots while getting food at a Panera near the student union. “I heard more shots coming from the entrance of the union,” Summers said.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., urged students to follow university guidance and said he was praying for those impacted. Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., echoed similar sentiments, saying her office is also in contact with FSU officials.
