Sleeping Woman Fights Off a Homeless Illegal Alien Choking Her, Kicks Him in Face [WATCH]

A man accused of breaking into a Pennsylvania home and assaulting a woman in her sleep was identified as an illegal alien who allegedly entered the United States through Texas in 2023, law enforcement officials confirmed, as reported by The Blaze.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday, when a 32-year-old woman reported being awakened to find a man on top of her. According to an affidavit, the woman fought back, punching the intruder in the eye and kicking him in the face before escaping his grip.

During the struggle, she said the man placed her in a stranglehold, cutting off her oxygen, but she was eventually able to break free. The suspect fled the scene but took the woman’s iPad as he left.

Investigators used the device’s tracking capability to help locate the suspect approximately nine hours later. The man was found in the area, and he matched the description provided by the victim.

She positively identified him on the scene, and police confirmed he was in possession of the stolen iPad. Officers also observed a fresh injury to his eye consistent with the woman’s report of self-defense.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Avila-Arevalo. He was arraigned Monday morning with the assistance of a Spanish-language interpreter and is currently being held on $99,000 cash bail.

Avila-Arevalo’s attorney argued against the bail amount, claiming his client posed no flight risk due to being homeless and having no financial resources.

According to WCAU-TV, federal authorities later confirmed that Avila-Arevalo is an illegal alien from Guatemala who crossed into the United States via Texas in 2023.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged an immigration detainer against him, meaning he would be transferred into federal custody if he posts bail.

Avila-Arevalo faces multiple charges, including burglary, strangulation, aggravated assault, and criminal trespass. Authorities credited the tracking function of the stolen iPad as a critical tool in locating and arresting the suspect.

Local police have not released further details on whether Avila-Arevalo has a prior criminal history in the U.S. or Guatemala. The case remains under investigation.
