Another air disaster, this time in northeast Philadelphia where a small plane has crashed into a neighborhood and set homes, businesses and cars on fire. This just happened in the last hour as I write this so there are very few stories up with details. Here’s what we do know.
A plane reportedly crashed on a street near Roosevelt Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Friday night, igniting nearby cars and homes in flames.
The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. after a plane carrying two people took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
There are multiple videos of the crash happening. The plane seems to be on fire and nosedives into the ground.

A local Fox affiliate reporter was near the scene of the crash and started filming as first responders were trying to seal off the area.

I’m seeing confirmation that the downed plane was a Learjet air ambulance.
The Federal Aviation Administration said two people were aboard the plane, which was a Learjet 55. The plane, a small, business-type jet, was en route to Springfield, Missouri.
The plane appeared to be a medical transport jet. The plane that took off and quickly disappeared from radar was registered to a company operating as Med Jets.
This is confirmed by pieces of the jet on the street.
“There’s pieces everywhere.” One police commander just told me officers clear out the parking of McDonald’s. Medical oxygen tank from the jet @PhillyPolice tell me outside the McDonald’s at Cottman Ave & Roosevelt Blvd quarter mile at least from where I was earlier near… pic.twitter.com/5KKBZAQq2F

I’ve been watching local news reports from Philly and they don’t seem to know any more than that at the moment. I’m going to take a break for dinner and I’ll come back later and update this. At some point tonight I expect local authorities will hold a press conference and maybe we’ll learn more about what happened here.
