NBC’s Saturday Night Live took aim at the recent Oval Office confrontation between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in its latest cold open, featuring comedian Mike Myers portraying DOGE head Elon Musk.

The sketch, which aired one day after the real-life White House incident, parodied the now-infamous exchange that saw Zelensky asked to leave the Oval Office following a heated discussion over U.S. support for Ukraine.

The cold open began with James Austin Johnson reprising his role as Trump, introducing Zelensky, played by Mikey Day, and Vice President J.D. Vance, portrayed by Bowen Yang.

Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’

“I’d like to welcome President Zelensky here to this incredible trap,” Johnson’s Trump said. “It’s going to be a big, beautiful trap, and we’re going to attack him very soon for no reason, right?”

The parody continued as Trump mocked Zelensky’s casual attire, saying, “Who shows up to the White House in a t-shirt and jeans like a garbage person?”

As the skit progressed, Mike Myers made an entrance as Elon Musk, wielding a red chainsaw similar to the one Musk used on stage at CPAC last month.

His character wore Musk’s signature “tech support” t-shirt and black jeans.

SNL’s Trump responded to Musk’s arrival by saying, “Elon, we love your outfit, very official and very respectful. And I love when he gets that chainsaw right to my head.”

Myers’ Musk then shouted, “Legalize comedy!” before joking that the Oval Office belonged to him.

The sketch also focused on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk heads, and the mass firings under the administration.

“They’re doing mass firings in the government,” Johnson’s Trump said. “We love mass firings because you don’t have to know what any of their names are or what exactly they do.”

Myers’ Musk responded: “I mean, we’re not going to get it perfect, you know. We are firing the non-essential employees, like air traffic controllers.”

SNL also made fun of DOGE’s young employees, with one fictional staffer nicknamed “Big Balls” declaring, “This week I fired a black general and a woman admiral. It was awesome!”

The sketch went on to introduce a fictional new initiative called the “Department of Undoing Child Health Care and Education,” abbreviated as “DOUCHE.”

“DOUCHE is going to be epic! DOUCHE is going to really clean everything out well,” Myers’ Musk joked.

The sketch ended with Johnson’s Trump making an exaggerated announcement about the Epstein Files.

“And to cap off an amazing week, we’re going to finally release the Epstein Files. Yes, America is going to see all the names, from A to S. No T,” he insisted.

The episode was hosted by comedian Shane Gillis, marking his second time leading the show.

Gillis, who was previously fired from SNL in 2019 over controversial remarks, returned to the stage alongside musical guest Tate McRae.

Mike Myers’ appearance as Elon Musk marked a shift in casting. Dana Carvey had previously portrayed Musk on the show, taking up the role after Trump won re-election.

Musk had criticized Carvey’s impersonation on his social media platform X, writing, “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey.”

Following the actual Oval Office exchange that inspired the skit, Zelensky was sent to a holding room in the West Wing and did not meet with Trump again.

On Friday night, Zelensky addressed the situation in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier.

When asked if he owed Trump an apology for how the meeting played out, he avoided directly answering the question.

“I’m not sure we did something bad,” Zelensky said, before adding, “We’re thankful to Americans for all your support. You did a lot. I’m thankful to President Trump and Congress’ bipartisan support. You helped us a lot from the very beginning, you helped us to survive. We are strategic partners.”

Pressed again on whether he would apologize, Zelensky deflected, stating that he wants Trump to take a stronger stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I want President Trump to be more on our side,” Zelensky said when asked if he was comfortable with Trump taking a neutral stance in negotiations.

SNL’s cold open marked the latest comedic take on an event that has had significant geopolitical ramifications.

While the sketch focused on exaggerating elements of the Oval Office confrontation, the real fallout continues to shape the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations.
