Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan boasted Wednesday that his party was responsible for the deadlock that resulted in a government shutdown.
The federal government entered a partial shutdown at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday after the Senate failed to pass a seven-week continuing resolution on Tuesday, falling short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a Democratic filibuster after the House passed the short-term funding bill on Sept. 19. Thanedar posted a brief video to social media about the shutdown on Wednesday. (RELATED: AOC Dodges When Asked If She Threatened To Primary Chuck Schumer)

“Returning back to Detroit this morning after the Republicans failed to show up in the U.S. House,” Thanedar said. “We got to make sure Americans have the health care that they need and if that means we got to shut this government down, so be it.”
Democrats have demanded over $1 trillion in funding for various priorities, including restoring funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CBP), which will shut down after its funding was clawed back in a rescissions package passed in July.
Thanedar introduced an impeachment resolution targeting Trump over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an adjudicated member of the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13. The Trump administration released a 13-page dossier detailing the evidence against Abrego Garcia in April.
Abrego Garcia was detained by in Tennessee on suspicion of human trafficking during a traffic stop, but was released at the behest of the Biden administration FBI in 2022, according to the Tennessee Star. Abrego Garcia returned to the United States on June 6 in order to face charges in a federal court in Nashville related to the 2022 incident.
