Concerns over Chinese ownership of American farmland have escalated, with top officials pushing for stronger federal action to address what they see as a critical national security threat.

Brooke Rollins, a key figure in the Trump administration, joined Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo to discuss the growing issue and the need for legislative intervention.

During the segment, Bartiromo raised the question: “Should we trust Chinese-owned farmland?”

Rollins responded emphatically: “No, Maria, it is a big problem, and we are talking about a federal solution to that.”

Rollins emphasized that while she supports state autonomy under the 10th Amendment, this issue requires federal intervention due to the national security risks involved.

“I am very much a 10th Amendment girl. Let the states manage the issues. But this is a national security risk,” Rollins explained.

“It’s not just a risk to our farmers and ranchers and the fact that we’re losing our farmland to overseas, but the fact that China is buying so much of it.”

Foreign purchases of U.S. farmland, particularly by Chinese entities, have raised alarm among lawmakers, with concerns that adversarial nations could gain strategic advantages over American food production and infrastructure.

While the federal government deliberates on a response, several states have already moved to block foreign ownership of farmland.

Rollins pointed to legislative efforts at the state level, noting that roughly a dozen states are working to ban such sales.

“The lot of states, I think a dozen states now, are moving on banning the sale,” she said.

She also credited Kristi Noem, now serving as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, for being one of the first governors to act on the issue.

“Kristi Noem, now our Secretary of Department of Homeland Security—she was one of the first governors out the gate to do it, I believe Sarah Sanders in Arkansas,” Rollins noted.

Despite state-level efforts, Rollins stressed the importance of a unified federal response to ensure long-term national security.

She revealed that discussions are already underway with lawmakers to develop a nationwide strategy to prevent further foreign acquisitions.

“But just yesterday, I was meeting with some of our lawmakers on the Hill talking about how we have a federal solution to this issue, and we don’t allow it to happen moving forward,” she said.

“It is a major national security issue for our country.”

With increasing bipartisan concern over China’s growing influence in America’s agricultural sector, the push for federal restrictions on foreign land purchases is gaining momentum.

While state governments have taken the lead in limiting these acquisitions, Rollins and other policymakers are advocating for a broader approach to protect U.S. farmland from foreign control.

As the debate continues, the question remains whether Congress will take decisive action to address the security risks associated with foreign-owned farmland before the issue escalates further.
