Liberal author Stephen King has claimed that President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance targeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to shift attention away from Elon Musk’s recent government spending cuts.
“Trump and Vance threw Zelenskyy under the bus because people are angry about Musk’s crazy cutting spree, and Trump kissing Putin’s ass,” King wrote on X.
“Tossed the base some red meat (I’m looking at you, Lindsey Graham). Old pro wrestling trick. Fire up the crowd.”

Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
King’s remarks came on Saturday, one day after a heated confrontation between Trump, Vance, and Zelensky at the White House over U.S. defense spending for Ukraine.
The meeting ended in a public clash, with Trump accusing Zelensky of “gambling with World War Three” and Vance questioning why the Ukrainian president had not acknowledged continued U.S. military support.

The argument resulted in Zelensky being asked to leave the White House, and ongoing peace talks have since been suspended.
Senator Lindsey Graham, one of Ukraine’s strongest Republican allies, also criticized Zelensky following the meeting, suggesting he should step down as leader of Ukraine.

King’s post quickly gained traction on social media, with 2.3 million views by Monday morning.
The post has been reposted 12,000 times, received 87,000 likes, and generated over 8,200 replies.
The horror novelist, known for his vocal opposition to Trump, had previously left X in protest when Musk acquired the platform.
He moved to BlueSky, a social media alternative favored by liberals, but recently returned to X after his posts received less engagement on the new platform.
King’s comments sparked a divided reaction online. Some users agreed with his take, including one who wrote, “The game’s always the same—feed the anger, distract with chaos, while the real players keep their hands clean. Truth’s buried in the noise, and we’re left fighting shadows.”
Another user commented, “Stephen just coming back to cook them is just beautiful.”
Others pushed back against King’s claims. One user questioned why the U.S. should continue funding Ukraine’s defense, writing, “Why should America keep footing the bill for Europe’s defense when they won’t stand up to Russia themselves?” Another dismissed King’s remarks outright, stating, “Awful take.”
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been at the center of debate after claiming to have saved taxpayers $65 billion by cutting federal waste and eliminating thousands of government jobs.
The department has faced criticism for some of its missteps, including the firing of 300 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists who were later asked to return to help combat a bird flu outbreak.
Zelensky’s visit to Washington, D.C. came amid ongoing peace negotiations between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During discussions, Trump reportedly proposed that Ukraine surrender half of its underground mineral resources in exchange for continued American support.
The tensions boiled over when Zelensky warned that the U.S. would eventually feel the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, prompting a heated exchange with Trump.
Vance also confronted Zelensky over his previous support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
Following the confrontation, peace talks were halted indefinitely, and Zelensky departed Washington without a resolution.
