White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller responded Sunday to a violent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, by calling for sweeping changes to U.S. immigration policy.
The attacker, identified as 45-year-old Mohamad Soliman, is an Egyptian national who entered the United States on a tourist visa and later overstayed, eventually obtaining a work permit.
“A terror attack was committed in Boulder, Colorado by an illegal alien. He was granted a tourist visa by the Biden Administration and then he illegally overstayed that visa. In response, the Biden Administration gave him a work permit,” Miller posted on X.

The attack occurred Sunday evening during a peaceful demonstration organized by the group “Run for Their Lives,” which regularly holds public walks advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

According to authorities, Soliman threw Molotov cocktails at participants, injuring eight individuals ranging in age from 52 to 88. At least one victim remains in critical condition.
Boulder Police confirmed Soliman was taken into custody at the scene and received treatment for minor injuries before being booked into the Boulder County Jail.

Soliman reportedly shouted “Palestine is free” and “End Zionists” during the attack, which took place near the Boulder County Courthouse.
Miller used the incident to highlight what he called a dangerous pattern of policy failure.
“The Biden Admin granted the alien a visa and then, when he illegally overstayed, they gave him a work permit,” he wrote.
“Immigration security is national security. No more hostile migration. Keep them out and send them back.”

The incident follows another recent attack outside the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., where a young couple was killed in an apparent act of anti-Israel violence.

That case is also under investigation as a potential ideologically motivated crime.
As federal officials continue to process Soliman’s case, scrutiny is building around visa enforcement and federal immigration procedures.
Soliman entered the United States legally at Los Angeles International Airport on August 27, 2022, under a non-immigrant tourist visa. He was authorized to remain until February 2, 2023.
Despite overstaying his visa, Soliman remained in the country and was later granted a work permit in March 2023.
The attack in Boulder has renewed concerns about the vetting process for visa applicants and the enforcement of visa expiration laws.
Law enforcement sources say the Department of Homeland Security is reviewing the case as part of a broader investigation into Soliman’s background and potential connections to extremist ideology.
The U.S. State Department has also faced increasing pressure over the past month for issuing visas to foreign nationals who have participated in disruptive or extremist demonstrations on college campuses.
Several foreign students have had their visas revoked after being linked to protests endorsing political violence or calling for a second intifada.
As the investigation continues, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that the agency is treating the Boulder attack as ideologically motivated violence.

They stated that the FBI has taken the lead on the case and is working closely with local law enforcement to determine the full scope of the attack.
