Actor Dean Cain, best known for his role as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has delivered a blistering critique of California’s leadership in the wake of devastating wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles.

Speaking with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News, Cain discussed his personal experiences and frustrations with years of mismanagement, poor leadership, and bureaucratic inefficiencies that he says have exacerbated the crisis.

Cain, who grew up in Los Angeles, expressed shock at the destruction caused by the fires, which have destroyed homes, including those of his friends and family.

“It’s stunning to see the devastation and what took place,” he said.

“I call this a perfect storm, Brian. It’s a perfect storm of mismanagement and failure of leadership. The Santa Ana winds aren’t new, fires in this part of California aren’t new—we grew up fighting them and knowing what was going on. What is new is these decades of just absolute, terrible leadership, failure to prepare, insane regulations, bureaucracy. It’s crazy.”

The actor criticized Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for prioritizing other initiatives over fire prevention and being absent during the crisis.

“65% of the fire budget is 65% of the homeless budget, which is $1.3 billion, and they cut by $17 million the fire budget, again, even though they were recommended not to,” Kilmeade noted.

“Karen Bass wanted a bigger cut, and the city legislature said, ‘No, it can’t be that big.’ She wanted a $23 million cut. And here is this poor excuse for a mayor who chose Ghana despite the threat of these fires.”

In response to footage of Mayor Bass refusing to answer questions from a Sky News reporter, Cain called for her resignation.

“It’s absolutely stunning that an elected official, the mayor of Los Angeles, cannot answer a direct question in the middle of an absolute emergency. It’s insane to me,” Cain said.

“This is the kind of failure of leadership that I’m talking about. Anybody who could leave L.A., like myself, kind of has. I see so many people are like, ‘I had to get out of there.’ This is why—this kind of failure of leadership leads to death and destruction and things just falling apart.”

Cain went on to praise the heroic efforts of firefighters and first responders, while emphasizing that their effectiveness has been hindered by years of poor governance.

“The firefighters, the first responders—unbelievable, heroic, incredible. And the people are such great people, and they’re used to fighting these things, but you can’t do it when all your tools are taken from you. That’s what’s happened here. It’s just absolute mismanagement,” he said.

Beyond the immediate crisis, Cain criticized Hollywood and California voters for supporting policies that he argues have contributed to the state’s problems.

He pointed out how personal property loss and looting often lead to a shift in political views.

“It’s one thing to vote, you know, the feel-good votes and blah, blah, blah, when it doesn’t affect you. And that’s kind of what Hollywood has done. They voted for all these things that really don’t affect the folks that are making the money and making the movies and doing these things. They don’t affect you, but when it does affect you—you can’t get a permit to rebuild, or your house burns down, or people loot your home afterward—suddenly, you love the police, you love the firefighters. You love people that you’ve been denigrating for years. You want common-sense policy,” Cain said.

Cain expressed hope that the current crisis would lead to more sensible voting decisions in California.

“Once it affects you, your votes change. And I think this is going to turn a very, very blue state much more red. I’m hoping California becomes purple,” he said.

“My heart goes out to those who lost everything, and I know they’re going to go through years and years of red tape—nightmare memories gone. It’s going to be one of those catastrophic events in their lives, and I hope this will wake up people so they’ll start voting for policies that make sense, common sense.”

As wildfires continue to ravage California, Cain’s remarks underscore the frustrations of residents who are grappling with both the immediate impacts of the disaster and the long-term consequences of policy decisions.

Meanwhile, California just added healthcare benefits for illegal aliens between the ages of 26 and 49.
