Enter: The New York City mayoral race. Zohran Mamdani, a Uganda-born Democratic Socialist, has just secured the Democratic nomination. Some on the right moan that outsized attention is paid to the city. Some on the right champion Mamdani as the just dessert of an imbecile liberal class. I will remind the reader: New York City is the most populous American city, with over 8 million residents. It has an annual budget of more than $100 billion. It remains, whether conservatives like it or not, a concentration of power and prestige. If Mamdani wins the mayoral race, Republicans nationwide will face a newly emboldened left just in time for the 2026 midterms.
