Singer Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed to testify in a high-profile legal battle between actress Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni, escalating tensions in an ongoing lawsuit centered around alleged misconduct during the production of the 2024 film It Ends With Us.

According to documents confirmed Friday, Swift, 35, was issued a legal notice by Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman.

The subpoena has drawn strong objection from Swift’s representatives, who claim her connection to the film was minimal.

Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed as a witness by Justin Baldoni’s lawyer in the Baldoni-Blake Lively case, TMZ reports.

A representative for Swift stated to DailyMail.com: “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”

Swift’s only involvement in the film was the licensed use of her track My Tears Ricochet from her 2020 album Folklore.

“Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” the statement continued.

The subpoena follows confirmation that Lively, 37, will testify in her lawsuit against Baldoni, which includes allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation.

Lively’s attorney, Mike Gottlieb, confirmed her intention to take the stand, saying, “Of course she’s going to testify. The ultimate moment for a plaintiff’s story to be told is at trial.”

Freedman responded, saying, “Although obviously uncomfortable for the Lively parties, the truth is not a distraction. The truth has been clearly shown through unedited receipts, documents and real life footage. More to come.”

He added that Lively “brought her high-profile friends into this situation without concern for their own personal or public backlash,” citing alleged text messages where she referred to Swift and her husband Ryan Reynolds as her “dragons.”

In those messages, Lively reportedly likened herself to Game of Thrones character Khaleesi, claiming her “dragons” protect what she fights for.

Freedman also raised questions about Reynolds’ alleged involvement, suggesting: “Ryan’s involvement is very well documented and we continue to discover more intentional misconduct. Was Disney actually complicit in Ryan using shareholder revenues to further a personal grudge? I would be surprised to learn that this type of corporate waste would not lead to much more exposure for those that have been complicit in affecting shareholder revenue.”

Lively originally filed an 80-page civil rights complaint with the California Civil Rights Department in December 2023, followed by a federal lawsuit weeks later.

Baldoni, 41, responded by filing a $400 million countersuit in January, accusing Lively, Reynolds, and Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane of defamation and extortion.

The director also filed a $250 million defamation suit against The New York Times over a December article detailing the allegations.

Gottlieb criticized the subpoenas issued to Swift and other celebrities, stating, “It’s completely unclear what claims or defenses in the case any of these celebrities… have any relevance to at all. You can’t just go around subpoenaing people because they’re famous and you think it will generate a bunch of headlines. The federal courts don’t tolerate that kind of behavior.”

Lively’s suit also names Baldoni’s collaborators, including Wayfarer Studios, the company’s CEO, and PR professionals Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel. Both parties’ legal teams have agreed to consolidate the federal lawsuits into one case.

It Ends With Us, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, was released in August 2024.

The film, which also starred Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Brandon Sklenar, and Kevin McKidd, grossed $148 million domestically and $350 million globally.

Baldoni is known for his work on Jane the Virgin and for directing Five Feet Apart and Clouds. Lively rose to fame on Gossip Girl and has starred in numerous films including The Town, The Shallows, and A Simple Favor.
