Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, sharply criticized Senate Democrats for their handling of Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing, comparing their opposition to a theatrical but meaningless display from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Cruz argued that despite their loud objections, Democrats failed to provide any substantive argument against Patel’s qualifications for the role.
“I think you’re absolutely right. Let’s first of all take an assessment of what happened today in the hearings. And I got to say, watching the Democrats’ ridiculous behavior in the hearings, it reminded me of a line from Shakespeare’s Macbeth,” Cruz said. “It was a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury and signifying nothing.”

Cruz described the Democrats’ approach as an attempt to turn the hearing into a spectacle rather than a serious vetting of Patel’s credentials.
“I think the Democrats, they tried to put on a circus,” Cruz said. “They screamed, they yelled, they stomped their little feets, they beat the table. But at the end of the day, what is really striking is none of them made a serious argument that Kash Patel is not qualified.”
The Texas senator then outlined Patel’s extensive experience in law enforcement, the justice system, and national security, countering any claims that he lacks the necessary background for the position.
Cruz emphasized Patel’s nearly two decades of service in various high-level roles across multiple government agencies.
“He spent nearly two decades working in law enforcement. He’s been a Federal Public Defender, he’s been a federal prosecutor, he’s worked in the National Security Division of the Department of Justice,” Cruz stated.
“He’s been a senior national security staffer on Capitol Hill. He’s worked in the national security apparatus in the White House, and he’s been the Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense. I mean, his experience is extensive.”
Cruz: Democrats Fear Patel Will Fulfill Trump’s Promises
According to Cruz, the real reason behind the Democrats’ resistance is not Patel’s qualifications but their fear that he will carry out former President Donald Trump’s national security agenda.
“What they are afraid of is that Kash Patel will do exactly what Donald Trump promised,” Cruz said.
The Democrats’ performance today at Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing reminded me of a line from Shakespeare’s Macbeth: ‘It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.’
They stomped their feet and yelled but offered nothing of substance.

Patel, who has been a key figure in Trump’s national security efforts, has long been a target of opposition from Democrats, particularly for his role in exposing FBI misconduct during the Trump-Russia investigation.
His nomination represents another step in Trump’s broader effort to reshape federal agencies and national security policies.
Despite the heated exchanges during the hearing, Cruz made clear that Democrats had not put forth a legitimate case against Patel’s confirmation.
With the process moving forward, Patel’s supporters argue that his background and commitment to Trump’s vision make him a strong choice for the role.
