McKINNEY, Texas — A Texas man is in custody after allegedly threatening to carry out a shooting against U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and federal immigration officers.

Robert King was arrested on Wednesday in McKinney, Texas, after making statements on social media threatening to “open fire” on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents if they were seen in his neighborhood. His threats also extended directly to Secretary Noem, as reported by My NBC 15.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Homeland Security speaks during a confirmation hearing on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 in Washington.

The Department of Homeland Security’s investigative arm, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), announced the arrest on Wednesday and described King’s online post as “alarming.” Officials confirmed King is a U.S. citizen.

A spokesperson for DHS stated that King referred to Secretary Noem as a Nazi in his online post. The spokesperson reiterated that threats to federal officers will be taken seriously and prosecuted.

These threats come amid continued national debates surrounding the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies.

While supporters of enforcement measures point to national security and rule of law, there have been rising concerns among authorities over violent rhetoric surfacing on various social media platforms.

Secretary Noem addressed the threats in a statement released Sunday, warning that attempts to harm law enforcement officers will not go unpunished.

“If you threaten or attempt to harm a law enforcement officer, we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” Noem said in the statement.

The National News Desk contacted DHS for further comment on King’s arrest. In response, a DHS spokesperson reiterated the department’s commitment to law enforcement protection.

“Like Secretary Noem said: If you threaten or attempt to harm a law enforcement officer, we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. Promises made, promises kept.”

The incident is the latest in a string of social media threats aimed at federal officers. One TikTok video recently surfaced in which the poster urged others to “shoot on sight” if ICE agents attempted to detain individuals or family members.

Law enforcement agencies across the country have been monitoring such online activity more closely, especially in areas where immigration-related enforcement is active.

Officials have not confirmed whether King had any specific individuals or actions in mind at the time of his post, but the nature of the threat led to immediate arrest and legal proceedings.

Authorities have not yet released the full details of King’s charges or any court dates. DHS has stated that they are continuing to investigate online threats against its agents and leaders.

As immigration enforcement remains a national focal point, federal officials continue to emphasize the importance of protecting officers tasked with upholding immigration law. Additional updates regarding the case are expected as legal proceedings move forward.
