In a tragic and senseless act that has shaken the Frisco, Texas, community, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony confessed to fatally stabbing a high school student, Austin Metcalf, during a track meet altercation — a shocking crime that ended with the victim dying in the arms of his twin brother.
“I’m not alleged, I did it,” Anthony reportedly told police at the scene, according to an arrest warrant obtained by NBC DFW.
The chilling confession came as officers arrested him at Kuykendall Stadium Wednesday morning, where multiple high school teams had gathered for a track meet.

The fatal incident unfolded in less than 30 seconds, according to witnesses and Metcalf’s family.
Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School outside Dallas, approached Anthony during a rainstorm and asked him to move from beneath another team’s pop-up tent. The two teens had never met before, and Metcalf’s request quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation.

According to the arrest report, Anthony refused to move. Instead, he reached into a bag and warned Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens,” a witness recounted to police.
When Metcalf attempted to physically move Anthony by grabbing him, Anthony allegedly pulled a black knife from his bag and stabbed Austin once in the chest — a wound that pierced his heart.

Anthony fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by authorities. During his arrest, he claimed the stabbing was an act of self-defense.
“I was protecting myself,” he reportedly told police. “He put his hands on me.” He then questioned officers about what legally qualifies as self-defense and asked whether Metcalf would survive the stabbing, according to the arrest affidavit.
Sadly, Austin did not survive. As medical personnel arrived, his identical twin brother, Hunter, was already at his side, holding him in his final moments.
“It really was under 30 seconds, this altercation,” Hunter told WFAA through tears. “I never met this kid in my life. My brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move.’ And [Anthony] was like, ‘Make me move.’”

“All of a sudden, he grabbed his backpack,” Hunter said, recalling the moment just before the stabbing.
The violence has stunned the school community and ignited conversations about safety at school events, the presence of weapons on campus, and the emotional and mental toll such violence takes on young people. For many, the tragedy is incomprehensible — a simple dispute over a place to sit turning into an irreversible loss.
Austin Metcalf was described by classmates and teachers as a dedicated student, a loving brother, and a rising track athlete with a bright future.
The Memorial High School community has rallied around the Metcalf family, holding vigils and fundraisers in his memory. School counselors have also been made available to help students cope with the grief and trauma.
Frisco Independent School District released a statement expressing its deep sorrow and support for those affected. “We are heartbroken over the loss of one of our students. Our thoughts are with the Metcalf family and everyone impacted by this tragedy,” the district said.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings are underway for Anthony, who is being held in juvenile custody.
The question of whether he will be tried as an adult remains pending, but prosecutors are expected to pursue serious charges given the nature of the crime and Anthony’s own admission.
The case is likely to center around Anthony’s claim of self-defense, although legal experts note that Texas law places limits on what qualifies as justifiable use of deadly force — especially when a confrontation can be reasonably avoided.
“This wasn’t a case of someone being attacked with a weapon,” one former prosecutor told NBC DFW.
“It appears, from witness statements, that the situation could’ve been de-escalated or simply avoided altogether. That will be key in evaluating any self-defense argument.”
As the investigation continues, one thing is painfully clear: the lives of two families have been forever altered.
The Metcalfs are left grieving the loss of a son and brother, while Anthony now faces the consequences of a split-second decision that ended in fatal violence.
For Hunter Metcalf, the tragedy is not just a headline — it’s the loss of his best friend, his other half.
“He died in my arms,” Hunter said quietly, the weight of his words settling like a stone.
What was supposed to be a routine track meet has now become a symbol of heartbreak — a reminder of how quickly violence can erupt, and how deeply it can scar those left behind.
