Harry Fones, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, outlined a series of recent DHS operations and enforcement actions in a statement addressing immigration enforcement, fraud investigations, and border security efforts across the country.

“This is Harry Fones, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security,” Fones said.

Fones said DHS surged more than 2,000 officers and agents to Minneapolis as part of a coordinated enforcement and fraud investigation.

“This week, DHS law enforcement surged over 2000 officers and agents to the sanctuary city of Minneapolis to investigate the rampant fraud in the state of Minnesota and conduct targeted immigration enforcement operations,” he said.

Fones addressed a fatal incident involving an ICE officer, which he said followed what DHS describes as sustained political attacks on federal law enforcement.

“Tragically, on Wednesday, we saw the direct consequences of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians,” Fones said.

He described the events that led to the shooting.

“A woman weaponized her vehicle to obstruct law enforcement. When officers commanded her to get out of the vehicle several times, she ignored them and attempted to run over federal law enforcement officers, an ICE officer fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots at the vehicle, resulting in the death of the driver,” Fones said.

Fones said the officer acted in accordance with training.

“He used his training and he saved his own life and that of his fellow officers,” he said.

Fones said DHS is offering prayers following the incident.

“Our prayers are with our officers, the deceased and her family,” he said.

He reiterated DHS support for law enforcement personnel.

“We have been very clear we stand with our law enforcement as they work tirelessly to make communities across the nation safer,” Fones said.

Fones urged cooperation with ICE operations.

“DHS urges local law enforcement and the public to cooperate with ICE as they remove pedophiles, murderers, rapists, drug traffickers and violent criminals from American communities,” he said.

Fones also described what he called additional hostility toward ICE agents in Minneapolis.

“ICE experienced more malicious treatment in Minneapolis after a Hilton Hotel canceled the reservation of federal law enforcement,” he said.

He added that the hotel’s corporate status has since changed.

“Hilton has taken action, and that hotel is no longer a Hilton location,” Fones said.

Fones said Secretary gnome participated directly in enforcement operations.

“This week, Secretary gnome was on the front lines in Minneapolis and accompanied law enforcement as they went after the worst of the worst,” he said.

He said the operation resulted in a significant arrest.

“The operation led to the arrest of an Ecuadorian illegal alien convicted of robbery and wanted for murder and sexual assault,” Fones said.

Fones said ICE would not be deterred.

“ICE is not allowing unjust behavior and assaults against them to stop them from doing the right thing, removing criminal illegal aliens from our streets,” he said.

Fones also discussed Operation salvo in New York.

“Secretary Noam also briefed reporters on Operation salvo launched in New York after the shooting of an off duty CBP officer this summer,” he said.

“So far, this operation has arrested 54 individuals,” Fones added.

He said the operation is intended as a warning.

“Operation salvo is sending a message to every single criminal illegal alien who thinks they can hide behind sanctuary policy, think again and leave now. Before it’s too late,” Fones said.

Fones detailed additional DHS actions involving maritime enforcement.

“The Coast Guard conducted two impressive back to back boardings of tankers, one in the North Atlantic and one near the Caribbean, both vessels were either last docked at or en route to Venezuela,” he said.

He said those actions were conducted with other federal agencies.

“Alongside our partners at the departments of war, Justice and State. DHS is putting the world’s criminals on notice. You can run, but you can’t hide,” Fones said.

He described border security efforts in Texas.

“Finally, Secretary no was in Brownsville, Texas to announce CBP installation of over 500 miles of river buoys in the Rio Grande,” Fones said.

“These barriers will make it harder for illegal aliens, drug smugglers and human traffickers to cross the river and other waterways,” he added.

Fones said the buoys are intended to improve safety.

“They’ll create a safer environment for agents on patrol, and will prevent more deaths from illegal aliens trying to cross the river,” he said.

Fones concluded by emphasizing the administration’s approach.

“The Trump administration is using every tool in our arsenal to defend our border and protect Americans. We will continue our mission to do what’s right and keep America safe,” he said.

“Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you next time,” Fones added.
