The Silence of the AMPAS: Hollywood’s Hush on Cease Fire Speaks Loudly

Have you noticed, with apologies to Peter Noone, a kind of hush all over the world? 

Not in Gaza, at least not yet, although the IDF has begun disengaging today against Hamas to move to agreed-upon positions for the hostage releases in the next two days. Not at the White House, which has understandably spoken about this agreement in historic terms, correctly if a bit prematurely. And not in diplomatic circles either, where relief over the potential end of the two-year war Hamas launched with its October 7 atrocities finally takes moral pressure off of their anti-Israel posturing. 

No, the hush comes from the progressive world, particularly in Hollywood, where celebrities banded together to demand a cease-fire and put together a blacklist targeting the Joooooooos. I hadn’t noticed it at first, but my friend John Ondrasik caught it almost immediately, as I noted in last night’s Final Word:

The Silence of the AMPAS spoke loudly to Nellie Bowles, too. In her TGIF column this morning at The Free Press, Bowles offers a wry take on the sudden lack of a script from those who demanded that Israel surrender to terrorists while boycotting Israeli filmmakers. They spent the last two years insisting that Hamas’ war was Israel’s genocide, Bowles points out — so why aren’t they celebrating the end of the war?

All the ceasefire accounts are so quiet: There is a ceasefire! Hamas is handing over the remaining hostages. Israel is releasing hundreds of prisoners, and while the war isn’t quite over, we’re a hell of a lot closer than we were last week. How incredible is that? Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner apparently refused to leave Egypt until the deal was struck, and lo, it was struck! Trump was handed an emergency note, and you might think it said something urgent about the deal but apparently all it said was: “You need to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first.” Which feels right for our mad king of crypto, our Great Orange who has somehow bestowed world peace upon us (which I am against: Hillary Clinton and I still want Greater America, in which we take the Mediterranean from its warring natives, who clearly have no idea what to do with it). Trump is mainly concerned about PR choreography, so to each his own. 

Anyway, Israel is beginning to withdraw from the Gaza Strip at long last. Meaning, if you believe that this war is, in fact, a genocide, then you should think a literal genocide is ending right now. But it’s odd. There’s no celebration. No D-Day–style parades. All the Ceasefire Now accounts are totally quiet when confronted with a ceasefire, like, now. Strange. I’m assuming maybe they haven’t heard the news. Maybe there’s no Wi-Fi on the flotilla. Or could it be that these peaceniks actually want a huge and very violent war in which Israel is destroyed and Jews are scattered into various global subjugations? Hmm. We’ll report back next week. I’m sure the ceasefire celebrations are starting soon, and I’ve just missed them.

Let’s hope Nellie has more material lined up for next week’s TGIF. The pickings for Hollywood celebrations of the hostage release and this particular cease-fire will be slimmer than the railroad boss in Blazing Saddles. There are two reasons for the total lack of a response from the progressive Left in Hollywood and elsewhere over this ceasefire, and neither reflects well on the self-absorbed bigots involved.

First, the credit for this ceasefire clearly belongs to Donald Trump, and they cannot even cheer peace if he’s involved. They hate him with the fire of a thousand suns, which is actually the least of the sins involved here. They refuse to credit him for anything, and their TDS blindness prevents them from recognizing the truth here. Hamas finally signed off on this capitulation because (a) Trump’s bombing run in Iran restored the credibility and likelihood of direct American intervention in threats to its interests, and (b) his public rebuke of the Israeli strike in Doha offered some security for the enforcement of his plan to negotiators in the talks. To celebrate the ceasefire they spent the last two years demanding would be to celebrate Trump, at least indirectly, and they’d rather see war and destruction before participating in Trump’s glory.

But just as much and perhaps more, these benighted celebs simply hate Israel. They didn’t want a ceasefire; they wanted a defeat of Israel and a Palestine that completely replaced it. “From the river to the sea” is the annihilationist anthem they freely took up, and now those dreams — like a flotilla led by a overindulged mean girl from Sweden — crashed into the hard light of reality. They aren’t cheering the ceasefire because they were cheering for the terrorists. They want Israel destroyed and the Jews either killed or dispersed from the only Jewish state in the world, replaced by the 58th Muslim-majority state and yet another Islamist tyranny established.

The Silence of the AMPAS speaks loudly, and entirely about our addled A-listers and their moral bankruptcy.
