The Trucker Crisis Is Not Invented for Political Gain

Democrats want you to believe that the Republicans are exaggerating the problem with foreign-born, and often illegal alien, truck drivers. 

It is another example of racism and the desire to oppress people of color, demonizing innocent people whose only crime is a desire to provide for their families.

That’s the argument of the American Federation of Teachers and AFSCME, which neither represent truckers nor have any conceivable connection to the issue of trucking, to defend the practice of states like California that hand out Commercial Drivers Licenses to aliens with almost no checks on their competence to drive or their citizenship status.

Uh, yeah, no. It’s a real crisis, and the Department of Transportation is absolutely right to address the problem and punish the states that have embraced the practice. 

California knew the rules. They PROMISED they would comply.

They illegally upgraded this foreigner’s license anyway.

As with everything these days, the fight over whether illegal aliens should be given driver’s licenses at all, and Commercial Drivers’ Licenses in particular, is entirely about politics. Immigration restrictionists, especially Donald Trump, oppose legitimizing illegal immigrants by giving them government documents and the right to work, without even having the basic necessary skills to exercise the rights granted to them. Therefore, Democrats are foursquare behind doing so.

In some states, you don’t need any documents proving your identity at all, other than a proof of residence, and even that is negotiable.

The ability to read traffic signs, for instance, is clearly optional. When Tim Walz and the Democrats pushed and approved a plan to give licenses to illegal aliens, Republicans pointed out that, even if you thought the idea was good, the implementation allowed for massive fraud. People could get licenses without actually identifying themselves in any meaningful way.

No big deal. It’s the right™ thing to do. 

Nobody is above the law™ is a slogan we often hear, but it, as with so many Democratic Party slogans, means nothing at all. Some pollsters tested it, and it sounded good to people, so they deployed it.

It’s impossible to root out fraud in a system that is, literally, designed from the start to commit fraud itself. If the whole point is to ignore the rules and the law, it would be amazing if the only rules and laws broken were the ones that Democrats arbitrarily decide won’t be followed. If the goal is to issue illegal aliens drivers’ licenses, that is what will happen regardless of other considerations.

The most obvious proof of this is drivers issued licenses without the ability to speak English or read road signs. There is no way to miss that. Nobody can fake the ability to read or speak a language, so anybody who is issued a license without the ability to do so didn’t commit the fraud so much as the government. They knew, and did it anyway.

It’s easy to argue that cleaning up the driver’s license rolls should be our focus, but that misses the underlying cause: the insistence by Blue officials that they can make up the rules as they go along. The legal system becomes a joke. Every rule becomes optional. 

Just invoke a magic word, whether it is “compassion,” or “fairness,” or “fighting fascism,” and all the rules go out the window. 

For all the talk about Donald Trump ignoring the law, it is Democrats who have adopted rule by fiat. And they aren’t just making up the rules for their own states, as bad as that is, but they are imposing their arbitrary rules on the rest of the country. Newsom’s drivers are killing Americans in other states.

We need to go far beyond merely punishing individual drivers who are violating the law. They are, after all, exercising rights granted to them by state officials in sanctuary states. Sure, they should be punished, but it’s like going after street dealers while ignoring drug distributors. 

The dealers are the end of a long chain, and are the easiest to catch and punish, but also the least important (individually) part of the chain. They are a dime a dozen. 

You have to go after the source, and the source is sanctuary states. Rip away their federal funding, and ensure that the full weight of the federal government lands on them.
