Tensions flared on “The View” during a heated exchange between co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro over President-elect Donald Trump’s return to office.

The debate, which took place on a recent episode of the show, featured Navarro criticizing Trump’s political agenda, while Goldberg urged caution and patience.

The dispute began when Navarro criticized Trump, calling him a “self-declared retribution president” and warning about the potential dangers of his return to power. “I’m not going to wait and see,” Navarro declared. “This guy has told us he’s a retribution. He’s going to be a dictator.”

Political commentator Ana Navarro speaks during the second day of the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 20, 2024 at the United Center in Chicago.

Her remarks were made in the context of Trump’s potential policies and his framing of his political return as one focused on exacting retribution against his perceived enemies.

Goldberg, however, pushed back against Navarro’s bold statements, advocating for a more measured approach. “There’s nothing to be done until you know what you’re fighting,” Goldberg argued.

She warned that rash actions and strong rhetoric would not be productive, saying, “Pissing in the wind doesn’t help—you just get a wet face.”

Despite Goldberg’s attempt to inject a sense of patience into the conversation, Navarro stood firm in her stance. “I have no false expectations that at 78, he’s going to all of a sudden turn into another human being,” Navarro responded, emphasizing her skepticism toward Trump’s ability to change.

She also noted her long-standing position on Trump, saying, “I spent weeks telling people that he was apocalyptic. I’m not going to change.”

Goldberg, however, cautioned against the use of extreme language when discussing Trump, arguing that such rhetoric could undermine credibility and give Trump’s supporters ammunition to deflect criticism.

“You lose credibility in many different ways,” Goldberg said. “If you don’t know what you’re talking about and you accuse him of something, then they’re going to blow it back. That’s why I say we need to wait and see.”

The on-air dispute highlights the broader divide within the political landscape as Trump prepares for his second term in office after winning the 2024 presidential election.

While some on the Left, like Navarro, remain highly critical and skeptical of Trump’s return, others, such as Goldberg, urge a more cautious approach until his actions as president can be fully assessed.

The exchange between Goldberg and Navarro encapsulates the sharp disagreements over how to handle Trump’s political resurgence.

The debate was particularly notable given the high-profile nature of the show and its large audience.

While Navarro made it clear she would continue to criticize Trump, Goldberg’s call for restraint and a more measured approach provided a contrast to Navarro’s more combative stance.

In typical “View” fashion, the segment ended abruptly as Goldberg lightened the mood by joking about needing to “pay the bills” before the show went to a commercial break.
