Co-host Joy Behar announced Thursday “The View” is going on its summer hiatus.

The ABC show takes an annual hiatus during summer, usually going through the month of August, according to TheDecider. “Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show until then,” Behar said before jokingly asking. “I’m allowed to say that, right?”

The show previously went on its annual summer hiatus after its August 2, 2024, episode, TheDecider reported, noting that the daytime panel show also had a one-week break around the July 4 holiday. The show will air reruns during the hiatus.

After cracking the joke, Behar expressed hope that controversy over the handling of files involving discraged financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein would take down President Donald Trump.

“Before we go I wanted to tell people that the tide is turning,” Behar claimed. “The tide is turning and things are changing. I mean, the ultimate irony would be that Rupert Murdoch will take him down, Fox News who created the monster will take him down.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Trump was told in May that his name was one of many in files tied to the disgraced financier, a report White House Communications Director Steve Cheung called “fake news.”

“This is another fake news story, just like the previous story by The Wall Street Journal,” the WSJ article quoted Cheung as saying.

Trump announced he filed suit against The Wall Street Journal and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, Friday over an article that claimed he sent the disgraced financier a bawdy letter celebrating his birthday. Trump hinted in 2019 that he banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, with Bradley Edwards, an attorney for some of Epstein’s victims claiming the ban occurred after Epstein assaulted an underage girl at the Florida property.

Edwards described Trump as someone who aided his efforts in a 2018 video.

“The only thing that I can say about President Trump is that he is the only person who in 2009, when I served a lot of subpoenas against a lot of people … he is the only person that picked up the phone and said, ‘let’s just talk, I’ll give ya as much time as you want, I’ll tell ya what you need to know,’” Edwards said in the 2018 video.

At the end of the episode, Whoopi Goldberg promised the daytime show would be back in September.

“Okay, so here’s what’s going on. We will see you all tomorrow for another new show, and we’ll be back for our new season in September,” Goldberg said. “But, of course, you can watch us the rest of the summer with our encore episodes, the best of the season.”

Editor’s note: This article has been updated with comments Whoopi Goldberg made about the show’s summer hiatus.
