In a recent interview with Human Events, Congressman Matt Gaetz revealed alarming information about security threats against former President Donald Trump.
According to Gaetz, a senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official informed him of five known assassination teams targeting Trump, with three of these teams being foreign-inspired and two being domestic.
Gaetz shared that this official expressed concerns about the lack of adequate force protection for Trump, especially before the second assassination attempt.

“I’ll break a little news for you,” Gaetz said. “I had a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security in my office before the second assassination attempt, saying that what he has assessed is that there are five known assassination teams in the United States—three inspired by other governments, two that are here, that are known domestic assassination teams.”
Gaetz explained that the DHS official was worried that the security measures around Trump were not sufficient, given the high level of threat. “This individual was coming to me, concerned that the force protection around President Trump, even prior to that second assassination attempt, was not sufficient for what it needed to be,” Gaetz continued.
He emphasized that the coordination at the dignitary protection level was minimal, and additional security measures were needed to ensure Trump’s safety on the campaign trail.
Journalist John Solomon, who was part of the discussion, sought further clarification, asking Gaetz, “So there are five—just want to follow up—five assassination teams. Are they all targeting Trump? Is it other officials?”
Gaetz confirmed that all five teams were targeting Trump specifically, raising serious concerns about the allocation of security resources. “I should have been clear about that—five teams that we know are targeting Trump,” Gaetz clarified. “That raises real questions about why certain teams were being pulled off of the Trump detail and put on, for example, the Jill Biden detail. Now, we don’t want anything bad to happen to Jill Biden, but at the same time, the threat envelope for her was substantially different than the threat envelope around President Trump.”
Gaetz criticized the decision to divert protective resources from Trump to other dignitaries, despite the higher level of threat faced by the former president. “The requests from the Trump detail and from the Trump campaign for more security were going unanswered,” Gaetz said.
When asked by Amanda Head, co-host of the Human Events segment, about potential solutions to bolster Trump’s security, Gaetz suggested that private security might be necessary to supplement the Secret Service. “President Trump is the last person worried about this, to be honest,” Gaetz said. “I think that there are ways to augment some extended perimeters with some private security. I’ve heard Eric Prince, a very smart guy, opine as to what it could take to ensure that folks aren’t able to just set up and get this close.”
Gaetz referenced the second assassination attempt, pointing out how close the attacker had been able to get to Trump. “You think about what happened in the second assassination attempt—someone was able to park outside and plan and prepare and lie in wait for the former president. That should never happen,” he added.
Solomon then asked Gaetz if the DHS official was acting in an official capacity when sharing the information and if the Secret Service was aware of the assassination teams before the second attempt on Trump’s life. Gaetz responded, “Yes. The person was informing me of this information because the Secret Service was aware of the threat profile around President Trump, and again, this was before the second assassination attempt.”
Gaetz expressed that the DHS official was concerned about the potential consequences of revealing this information and wanted to ensure that it could be publicly scrutinized. “The person was coming to me in part to ensure that if they revealed this information, if investigations and reviews brought this to light, that it would be able to be scrutinized and assessed without this person being fired or sent into the closet somewhere,” Gaetz explained.
Gaetz concluded by stating that the public should be aware of the threats Trump faces and the decisions made regarding his protection. “The public should know that the Secret Service was aware of five assassination teams at the time they were taking protective assets away from President Trump and redeploying them to other people with less of a risk profile around them,” Gaetz emphasized.
Solomon praised Gaetz for his efforts to bring this critical information to light, stating, “This is a bombshell. We can’t thank you enough for bringing this to life. This is very important information.”
The revelations made by Gaetz underscore significant concerns regarding the security of former President Trump and the decisions surrounding his protection, raising questions about the priorities of those responsible for ensuring the safety of political figures.
