Radio host Charlamagne Tha God said Friday that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries should “step down” following the former’s move to support a GOP-backed government funding bill.
The legislation, which the House passed Tuesday, would fund government operations through the end of September. Schumer, previously opposed to the bill, signaled late Thursday that he would support a motion to advance the bill.
Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” said that Schumer supporting the passage of the bill after opposing it highlights the failure of Democratic leadership. (RELATED: Fiscal Hawks Warn GOP Spending Plan Must Reject ‘Budget Gimmick’ That Could Add Trillions To Deficit)

“Per usual, the party of inaction, the Democrats, have failed to protect the interests of the American people. And you know why Dems suck at messaging? Because they never talking about nothing, and they do nothing,” Charlamagne said. “So guess what? To me, they all gotta go. Like, Dems don’t just have a messaging problem, they got a leadership problem. The Chuck Schumers of the world, the Hakeem Jeffries — they should all step down.”
“And any Dem who isn’t fighting for the people and standing with the party should be primaried. Like, how can you say the bill sucks, but you’re passing it anyway?” he continued. “Like, you’re not even going to try to present something different, try to negotiate, nothing? ‘It sucks, but we’re going to pass it anyway.’”
The government is slated to undergo a partial shutdown after midnight on Friday unless eight or more Democratic senators join Republicans to advance the six-month stopgap spending bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), due to the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster. Sufficient Democratic senators are anticipated to join Schumer in advancing the bill.
“While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse,” Schumer said Thursday. “Mr. President, I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country, to minimize the harms to the American people, therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”
“A shutdown will be a costly distraction from this all-important fight [against President Donald Trump],” he added.
Charlamagne also awarded Schumer “Donkey of the Day” during the Thursday segment of “The Breakfast Club.”
“Since everyone is playing politics, it simply looks like one party — Republicans — is about action and the other party —Democrats — is not,” he said during the segment. “So, what reason do I have to continue to support the party of inaction? That narrative will not change for Democrats until the people in the Democratic party are changed.”
