At 62 years old, Tom Cruise is still one of Hollywood’s most fearless and energetic stars—and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

During the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in New York City on Sunday night, Cruise made it abundantly clear that retirement is not in his vocabulary.

In fact, the megastar plans to continue making action-packed blockbusters for decades to come.

“I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s,” Cruise declared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I will never stop… I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”

While his enthusiasm for the film industry remains boundless, Cruise did confirm one important milestone: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will indeed mark his final appearance as IMF agent Ethan Hunt.

“It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing,” Cruise confirmed.

Reflecting on Nearly Three Decades of Ethan Hunt

Cruise first stepped into the role of Ethan Hunt in 1996 with the original Mission: Impossible film, which he also produced.

At the time, he was just 34.

Now, nearly three decades and seven sequels later, Cruise is stepping away from the character that helped define his legendary career.

“There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures that we’ve worked in,” he said, reflecting on his journey with the franchise.

“Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking,” Cruise continued.

“It’s been exceptional, it really is exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make, and I love it. I love just making movies.”

Cruise’s passion for moviemaking and his dedication to the craft have never been in question—especially when it comes to stunt work.

He has famously performed his own high-octane stunts throughout the Mission: Impossible series, from scaling skyscrapers to hanging off airplanes in flight.

“There’s a lot of pre-stunt rituals that keep me alive — it depends on what I’m doing and the amount of preparation I have to do,” he shared. “A lot of thought goes into it, and they are very complex and very interesting.”

Praise from Behind the Camera

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed The Final Reckoning—his fourth turn at the helm of a Mission: Impossible film—had high praise for the leading man.

Speaking at the premiere, McQuarrie praised Cruise not only for his work ethic but also for his spirit.

“The most giving, most game — he’s down for anything,” McQuarrie said.

“Whether or not he understands something, he’s fully willing to jump into something, whether he feels it or not. He’s a great teacher and a great student.”

Cruise’s willingness to immerse himself fully in the filmmaking process has long been admired by his peers.

His ability to balance discipline with enthusiasm is one of the many reasons he remains such a dominant force in Hollywood.

A Legend with No Finish Line

With The Final Reckoning marking the end of the road for Ethan Hunt, fans may be saying goodbye to one era of Cruise’s career—but they’re also being reassured that there’s much more to come.

Whether it’s comedy, drama, or more gravity-defying action, Cruise has no plans to step out of the spotlight anytime soon.

“I will never stop,” he said simply—and emphatically.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters nationwide on Friday, May 23.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the franchise or just love seeing Tom Cruise defy the odds, this final chapter promises the kind of adrenaline-fueled spectacle that only he can deliver.
