Tom Homan, former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reported significant progress in securing the U.S.-Mexico border under President Trump’s leadership.
Speaking with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, Homan detailed the sharp decline in illegal border crossings and the administration’s aggressive deportation efforts, particularly targeting criminal aliens.
Bartiromo opened the discussion by asking Homan to assess the administration’s work on border security so far.

“Can you assess your work so far?” she asked.
Homan responded with a striking statistic, highlighting the success of Trump’s policies.
“Well, look, I look at the numbers this morning, Maria, the crossings on the border down 93%. 93%! Wow. That’s a bigger decrease than under the first Trump administration,” Homan stated.
He credited Trump’s leadership for achieving results that surpass even the successes of his first term.
“So look, I said it. President Trump is a game changer. No one has had the success he’s had on securing the border,” Homan said.
He emphasized that border security is directly tied to national security.
“He clearly understands we can’t have strong national security if we don’t have border security. We need to know who’s coming in, what’s coming in, where it’s coming, and why it’s coming in. And we’ve achieved a success on the border already,” Homan continued.
While acknowledging the progress, Homan made it clear that the work is far from over.
“We got more work to do,” he added.
Homan also discussed the administration’s aggressive approach to deportations, revealing that thousands of illegal immigrants have already been removed from the country.
“And on top of that, as far as deportation operations, we’re just shy of, I think, we have 5,000 already arrested the first week, and majority of them being criminals,” Homan confirmed.
He addressed criticism from the media, particularly regarding non-criminals being deported.
Homan pointed out that sanctuary cities make the situation worse by refusing to cooperate with ICE, leading to more non-criminals being detained in community raids.
“The non-criminals, and the media’s talking about how, well these non-criminals, the non-criminals, are arrested in sanctuary cities because you force us into the community, rather than arresting the bad guy in jail,” Homan explained.
He described how targeting known criminals in jails would be the most efficient way to conduct deportations, but sanctuary city policies prevent ICE from doing so.
“And we find that criminal, he’s most likely with others, and they’re going to go too. So if you want to be a sanctuary city, you’re going to get exactly what you don’t want—more agents in the community and more non-criminals arrested,” Homan stated.
“The crossings on the border are down 93% … that’s a bigger decrease than under the first Trump administration,” says Border Czar Tom Homan.

With illegal crossings dropping by 93% and nearly 5,000 deportations already executed, the administration is making strides in restoring order at the southern border.
However, Homan made it clear that the mission continues, and enforcement will remain a top priority.
As sanctuary cities continue to resist cooperation with federal immigration authorities, the administration has vowed to take stronger action to remove criminal aliens and secure American communities.
With the border crackdown in full force, President Trump’s commitment to law and order is evident in the administration’s rapid results.
