Border Czar Tom Homan says the push to recruit new and returning federal immigration agents is drawing historic interest, fueled by both patriotism and a new $10,000 signing bonus.

Appearing on Newsmax, Homan detailed the scale of the response and praised the move as a major step toward restoring experienced immigration enforcement personnel under the Trump administration.

During a segment with Newsmax Homan described the overwhelming number of potential agents reaching out to him directly.

“Well, I can tell you this, John, we had 1000s of people contacting me. I mean, literally 1000 LinkedIn account had to shut it down. So 1000s of agents were already wanting to come back in from the board show and from ICE without it, without a signing bonus,” Homan said.

According to Homan, the rollout of a $10,000 signing bonus has only intensified interest in joining or returning to the ranks of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol.

“But now there’s a signing bonus announced, $10,000 signing bonus. The numbers are extraordinary. I was talking to the CBP commission this week. The record. They got more recruits coming in from border patrol any time in history. Their recruiting offices swamp. They got more people they can handle,” he explained.

The host raised the issue of federal resources and legislative support behind the effort.

“If you will, in terms of legislation. Has that money allocated to hire more ICE agents, excuse me, federal agents. I wanted to ask you about that. Can you talk about the the the incentives to recruit more federal agents to be used by ICE? What is out there for them to maybe consider coming out of retirement or consider this as a career path,” the host asked.

Homan responded by emphasizing the advantage of bringing back experienced ICE agents who already know the systems and legal protocols.

“ICE, I know they got hundreds and hundreds of people already signed up to come back, and it’s a great move. Bring back ICE agents who know the Fourth Amendment, they know how to speak Spanish, they know how to use the processing system. They know the way we operate on fugitive operations. So they hit the ground, hit the ground from day one after a few weeks of refresher training. So it’s a great move,” Homan said.

He also noted that in addition to the signing bonus, a retention incentive is in place for eligible retirees.

“And also, there’s a $10,000 retention bonus for those who are eligible retired, we lift the retirement age to keep that knowledge, that experience, you know, in the workforce or so, there’s also $10,000 signing bonus. I think it’s a great move,” Homan added.
