Too Fun to Check: Has Hunter Gone MAGA?

The poster boy for dissipated scions has decided to re-insert himself into the public consciousness, apparently not yet satisfied with his presidential pardon from his padre’s puppeteers. Earlier this week, Hunter Biden opened up on a podcast about a wide range of topics, including his father’s performance in the White House. First, though, Hunter decided to set the record straight on the infamous laptop that Joe Biden insisted was a Russian intelligence operation, his lawyers claimed was privileged and stolen, and that Hunter now says … never existed?

Hunter Biden told podcaster Shawn Ryan in an interview that aired Monday that former Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani of New York City “concocted” the laptop that was the subject of an October 2020 New York Post report. …

“What I can tell you about the laptop is that there is no laptop. That’s bullshit. What was provided out there, what the-” Biden said, with Ryan asking, “There was no fucking laptop?”

“There is an actual physical laptop that somebody had, but the guy that had, that said he had the laptop, the existence of the search for the laptop came before he was even a twinkle in Rudy Giuliani’s eye,” Biden said. “There were people, talk to Lev Parnas. Lev Parnas literally went to Ukraine to get a laptop from Dmytro Firtash, to get a hard drive, Hunter Biden’s hard drive from Dmytro Firtash and Andrii Derkach, in Ukraine, in Austria, four months before John Paul Mac Isaac ever even… existed. And so, what they did is they cobbled together [a] stolen, concocted, fabricated mishmash of digital information, largely, which is, you know, thousands and thousands and thousands of emails… from 25 years. I mean, no laptop could have held all of that.”

Oh, I don’t know … My new Macbook Pro came with a two-terabyte drive. That’s more than enough room for all of my photography and email storage needs, even the pics of my experiences with hookers, blow, and guns. Of course, I mean this theoretically, since this laptop actually belongs to the Powers That Be of Townhall. Theoretical, I say. 

Really, fellas. I only have my church photography on it. Anything else on it was planted on me by the guys at Power Line. I, uh, dropped it off at a repair shop in Minneapolis, and … you know the rest. It could be a Fraters Libertas dirty trick, too.

Truly, though, this latest claim from Hunter might tend to dent his credibility on other matters, and that’s too bad. Hunter sounded much more connected to reality when it came to assessing his father’s legacy as president, at least to the extent that Joe ever was president. Hunter decided to weigh in on two of his father’s biggest disasters in the same podcast with Shawn Ryan, immigration and Afghanistan. And Hunter acknowledged the reality of both:

Disgraced first son Hunter Biden turned on his father, Joe, in a wide-ranging podcast interview this week, acknowledging that the 46th president’s lax immigration policy and move to pull US forces out of Afghanistan were both catastrophic failures.

“We need vibrant immigration,” the 55-year-old told “The Shawn Ryan Show” during a five-and-a-half-hour conversation that dropped Monday.

“But we don’t want immigrants that are coming here illegally, draining us of resources, and being prioritized above people that are actual, literal heroes, that are still recovering from 21, 20 years of endless war — or anybody else in our society.”

Hunter did try to shift the blame to Trump, but …

“And then Donald Trump stepped in six months before the [2024] election, and told [Republicans] that he was gonna primary every single one of them that voted for that, because we’re addicted to the problem,” said the younger Biden.

Yeah, well, good luck with that explanation. The crisis began as soon as Joe took office and reversed Trump’s tough policies on asylum and border security. House Democrat Henry Cuellar tried to warn the Biden team about the coming catastrophe, but Joe and Kamala Harris got exactly what they wanted out of it. They wanted to pressure Republicans into accepting a high level of illegal immigration as a new baseline with that bill in exchange for a minimal amount of enforcement, claiming that it was the only way to solve the problem. Trump exposed this flim-flam within weeks of taking office, eliminating the border flood altogether without any new legislation at all. 

Hunter didn’t even attempt a blame-shift on Afghanistan:

Elsewhere in the interview, Hunter admitted to interviewer Shawn Ryan that the botched bugout from Afghanistan “was an obvious f—ing failure.”

“I think that there was a better way to do it, and … I can blame it on his generals, I can blame it on [other] people [for] the way in which we did it, but — and my dad always knew this also, is that the buck stops with him.”

Well … yeah, and that’s exactly what MAGA argues, too. Donald Trump actually did have a better way to do it, which would have allowed for us to hold Bagram as a way to secure Kabul and the Afghan government we had meticulously nurtured for two decades. It still might have collapsed over time anyway, but it wouldn’t have created Saigon II: Taliban Bug-Out-aloo. The rout in Kabul exposed Biden as an incompetent to not just MAGA but to everyone, and Biden’s approval ratings never recovered from it. 

Of course, Hunter is not going to put on a red cap and shout “USA! USA!” at the next Trump rally. But at least he’s a little more connected to reality than the rest of his family.
