In a disturbing turn of events, an apparent swatting call targeting Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s north Georgia home led to a fatal car accident, claiming the life of an innocent woman and leaving a local police officer injured.
As reported by Fox News, Greene, visibly shaken and outraged, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her sorrow and anger, declaring, “The perpetrator of this crime has committed murder in our small community.”
The harrowing chain of events unfolded after a bomb threat email directed at Greene’s residence was sent to the Rome Police Department’s assistant chief.

Authorities took the threat seriously, dispatching a bomb squad to her home. However, tragedy struck when an officer en route to the scene was involved in a deadly traffic collision near Redmond Road.
In her statement, Greene condemned the act as a vile example of political extremism with deadly consequences.
“I’m heartsick right now,” she wrote. “I was just informed that an innocent woman died today in an auto accident involving a member of the Rome Police bomb squad who was responding to the threat at my home.”

She extended prayers to the victim, identified as Tammie Pickelsimer, her family, and the injured officer, as well as the Rome Police Department.
Swatting, a dangerous prank that involves making a false report to provoke a heavy police response, has become an increasingly prevalent tactic among those seeking to intimidate public figures.
Greene revealed that she has been the target of such hoaxes at least nine times since taking office. Despite the repeated threats, she continues to call for justice and accountability.
Greene shared that the email was traced back to a Russian IP address.
She stated that her office is working closely with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to ensure this criminal is brought to justice.

The Rome Police Department confirmed that the officer involved in the accident was traveling in a personal vehicle to join the bomb squad’s response to Greene’s home.
The department noted that the crash caused significant delays near the Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks and resulted in severe injuries to the officer and the tragic loss of life for Ms. Pickelsimer.
Greene praised the bravery of local law enforcement, acknowledging the daily risks they take to protect their communities. “The officer was responding to protect my life,” she said.
“These violent political threats create undue strain on law enforcement. It’s an undue strain on our law enforcement who must treat them seriously.”
The incident is still under investigation, with authorities working to determine the cause of the fatal collision. Meanwhile, Greene’s call for stronger measures against politically motivated threats highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in handling such crimes.
“I’m sick to my stomach, but I’m also angry,” Greene said in closing. “This should never have happened, and I pray it never happens again.”
