South Carolina law enforcement has arrested a 19-year-old from Greenville after she allegedly posted a death threat online targeting Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC).

The suspect, identified as Samuel Theodore Cain, a biological male who identifies as transgender, was taken into custody Thursday and booked at the Greenville County Detention Center.

Cain is formally charged with threatening the life of a public official, a felony in South Carolina that carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

The arrest warrant, issued on May 12, confirms that the charge stems from an April 26 social media post in which Cain allegedly wrote: “I’M GOING TO ASSASSINATE REPRESENTATIVE NANCY MACE WITH A GUN AND I’M BEING 100% DEAD ASS.”

The message was posted on the social platform X under the username “raystr1ker.”

The account has since been deleted.

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), which conducted the arrest in coordination with the U.S. Capitol Police, confirmed the details to the Washington Examiner.

SLED also confirmed that the case will be prosecuted by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina has declined to pursue federal charges at this time, according to reporting by The Post Millennial.

Following the arrest, Rep. Mace issued a statement expressing appreciation for the swift response by law enforcement and connecting the threat to broader political tensions.

“The trans movement is fueling violence,” Mace said.

“Capitol Police and SLED moved fast on this death threat, and they should. No one should face murder threats for calling out radical gender ideology. This isn’t just about me. It’s an attack on free speech, rule of law, and anyone brave enough to speak the truth about biology.”

Mace continued, “We won’t back down. We won’t stop fighting to protect women and kids. I am deeply grateful for the U.S. Capitol Police and SLED for keeping me, my family, and my employees safe.”

In a separate post on X, Mace wrote, “Roxie was ‘dead*ss’ arrested. We’ll let the photo stand for itself because this individual is obviously unwell in more ways than one. Hopefully they have makeup wipes in prison.”

Cain reportedly expressed fear of being “doxxed and murdered” before deleting the X account, according to screenshots cited by media outlets.

Journalist Andy Ngo reported that the FBI contacted Cain, who told agents she “didn’t mean” the threat.

Under South Carolina law, one possible defense to the charge is arguing that the threat lacked intent or was made in jest.

Local legal experts note that the credibility and context of the threat will play a critical role in how the case proceeds.

The incident follows a pattern of threats received by Rep. Mace since introducing legislation last November aimed at restricting access to bathrooms based on biological sex.

That proposal has drawn national attention and criticism from activists, while receiving support from Republican lawmakers focused on protecting women’s and children’s spaces.

No trial date has been announced as of Friday.
