Trans Parent Gets 5 Years for Stabbing His Own Children

Earlier this week a trans woman named Michael Joseph “Alice” Attwood was sentenced to five years for a violent attack on his own children.

An Alberta judge has sentenced a transgender parent to five years in prison for stabbing his two children, a term that falls on the higher end of the scale for such offences.

Alice Michael Attwood received the sentence in provincial court. The Crown had been seeking five and a half years, while the defence argued for a term of three to four years.

He had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

The details of the crime haven’t been published, but it sounds as if he attempted to murder his daughter and nearly succeeded.

Attwood stabbed his eight-year-old daughter in the neck, severing 75% of her upper esophagus.

The court heard that Attwood entered his daughter, MA’s, bedroom late at night armed with a serrated kitchen knife. He deliberately stabbed her in the neck, requiring emergency surgery to save her life. His seven-year-old son, WA, sustained minor injuries during the attack..

A forensic psychiatrist examined Attwood and found no evidence of serious mental illness at the time of the offences.

Legally he’s not crazy but he’s clearly deranged and never seems to have offered any real explanation for his behavior. His attorneys did try to offer some lame excuses though.

While the circumstances leading up to the crime are unknown, Attwood’s defense attorneys had attempted to make several arguments mitigating his responsibility for the crime. Among them, that Attwood had recently experienced a marijuana-induced psychotic episode in the week before the attack.

“I would suggest that this falls into the category of a person harming their own children because they’re in crisis,” Attwood’s lawyer said during a January 2026 pre-sentencing hearing. He also cited Attwood’s gender identity, claiming that past attempts at suppressing his transgender status had contributed to depression and his increasing reliance on cannabis.

Both the psychiatrist and the judge didn’t buy the explanation about pot or the one about stress related to trans identity. Could this have something to do with politics? He was rambling about politics online just days before the attack.

Just days before stabbing his own children, Attwood uploaded a reel to Instagram in which he said that he needs to “protect [his] family from the negativity within.” He also posted a meme about Elon Musk being “transphobic,” accompanied by a series of rambling thoughts.

“Nobody needs T.R.A.S.H in their lives. It’s insidious. Like being a cop. It can infect the whole family, and even the friend group. That level of Fash was only reserved for one group before, until incels showed up anyways… well, and cops. Because, ACAB. Unless they’re going to actually do something about it, and then they’re a reformed version of that. Just remember though. Just because you’re trash, doesn’t mean you can’t do great things. Don’t let shame hold you down,” he wrote, adding that T.R.A.S.H was an acronym which stood for: “Transphobic. Racist. Ableist. Sexist. Homophobic.”

According to reports, Attwood was sending the daughter to a trans-inclusive school, which may indicate that the daughter, age 8, also identifies as trans. That part is a bit unclear. What’s not unclear is that after his arrest Attwood was released and allowed to go back on social media to talk about himself. A local conservative politician commented on his release.

35-year-old Alice Michael Attwood of Grande Prairie stabbed two children on February 19, with one needing to be airlifted to the Stollery Hospital in Edmonton for emergency surgery to address the child’s severed esophagus.

“Two days later, Attwood was free to return home and livestream himself playing video games on his YouTube channel while one of the children faces months on a feeding tube, and the remainder of the family must try to find ways to ensure their children’s safety.

“This is unacceptable. Monsters like Alice Michael Attwood should not be allowed to roam around our streets just two days after stabbing two children…

This cannot continue. Canadians deserve a Common Sense Conservative government who will end the Liberals’ insane catch-and-release policies, stop the crime and ensure that monsters who stab children are kept in jail.

That sounds entirely reasonable to me but in Canada I guess not so much.
