Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has confirmed that he will return for the 2025 NFL season, vowing to improve his performance after a disappointing end to the team’s Super Bowl run.
Kelce sent a text message to Pat McAfee, which was read live on The Pat McAfee Show, making his intentions clear.
“I’m coming back, for sure,” Kelce wrote. “Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!”

Kelce’s return announcement comes just weeks after the Chiefs’ attempt at an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat ended with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.
In that game, Kelce was limited to just four receptions for 39 yards.
Following the defeat, he reflected on the team’s struggles during an episode of his New Heights podcast.
“Just wasn’t our day,” Kelce admitted. “Couldn’t find a lick of momentum. I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field.”

As one of the league’s most dominant tight ends, Kelce has played deep into the postseason for years, contributing to the Chiefs’ success in the AFC Championship and Super Bowl.
He acknowledged the physical toll of those extended seasons.
“The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three [more] games than everybody else in the entire league,’’ Kelce said.
“That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself. That process can be grueling [and] it can weigh on you.”
Kelce, a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Cincinnati, has spent his entire career with the Chiefs.
The 10-time Pro Bowler holds multiple NFL records, including the most receiving yards in a single season by a tight end (1,416 in 2020) and the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for a tight end (seven).
Despite those accomplishments, Kelce experienced a dip in production in 2024, recording career lows in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (three).
However, he remains a key figure in the Chiefs’ offense and is set to receive an $11.5 million roster bonus on March 14.
Kelce’s stardom has grown beyond the football field, in part due to his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.

The 14-time Grammy winner attended several Chiefs home games this season and was present at Super Bowl 2025 in Caesars Superdome.
The couple recently returned from a private getaway, according to Page Six.
“Taylor and Travis had a really nice time reconnecting after a very busy year,” a source told the outlet.
Swift concluded her nearly two-year Eras Tour in December, allowing more time for the high-profile couple to spend together before Kelce begins offseason preparations.
Kelce’s decision aligns with recent comments from Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, who suggested earlier this week that the veteran tight end was not done yet.
“How we left it at the end of the season is that he was fired up,” Veach said at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
“He has one more year under contract. Still think he has that fire and desire to play. As far as I’m concerned, there is no deadline [for a decision]. I think we left it as he’d be back. And we’re excited to get him back and get him going.”
With Kelce officially committing to another season, the Chiefs will look to regroup and make another run at a Super Bowl title in 2025.
