A tense exchange unfolded in the Oval Office on Friday as President Donald Trump clashed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over the ongoing war with Russia.
The meeting, which included Vice President JD Vance, quickly escalated into a heated confrontation, with Trump warning Zelensky that he was “gambling with World War III.”
The meeting took a sharp turn when Vice President Vance criticized Zelensky for his approach in addressing American leaders.

“It was disrespectful for Zelensky to come into the Oval Office, litigating in front of the American media,” Vance said.
The comment sparked a back-and-forth between the leaders, with Zelensky defending Ukraine’s position and Vance pushing back.
“Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems, you should be thanking the president for wanting to bring an end to the conflict,” Vance said.
Zelensky responded, asking, “Have you ever been to Ukraine? Have you seen the problems we have?”

He later added, “You will feel things.”
Vance dismissed the remarks, accusing Ukraine of taking Americans on a “propaganda tour.” Trump then interjected, addressing Zelensky directly.
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel,” Trump said.
“We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. You are in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel. We’re going to feel very good. We’re going to feel very good and very strong. You’re right now not in a very good position… and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country, this country that’s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should.”
Vance pressed Zelensky on whether he had shown appreciation for U.S. support.
“Have you said thank you once?” Vance asked.
“No… You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October. Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country.”

When Zelensky commented that Vance was “speaking loudly,” Trump stepped in again.
“He’s not speaking loudly. Your country is in big trouble,” Trump said, cutting off Zelensky as he tried to interject.
“No, no, you’ve done a lot of talking. Your country is in big trouble. You’re not winning, you’re not winning this. You have a damn good chance of coming out OK because of us.”
Trump pointed out the massive military support Ukraine has received from the U.S. under the previous administration, making it clear that Ukraine would not have been able to sustain the war without it.
“We gave you, through this stupid president [Joe Biden], $350 billion. We gave you military equipment… If you didn’t have our military equipment, if you didn’t have our military equipment, this war would have been over in two weeks,” Trump stated.

“You have to be thankful,” he added, reminding Zelensky that Ukraine is in no position to make demands.
“Your people are dying. You’re running low on soldiers. Listen, you’re running low on soldiers … Then you tell us, ‘I don’t want a cease-fire. I don’t want a cease-fire,’” Trump continued.
Trump concluded the exchange by making it clear that Ukraine had a choice to make.
“It’ll be a tough deal to make because the attitudes have to change,” Trump said.
“You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty,” he warned.
As the meeting wrapped up, Trump turned to the press and remarked, “I think it will be great television, I’ll say that,” before asking reporters to leave the room.
The confrontation underscored the shifting U.S. stance on Ukraine under Trump’s leadership, signaling a push for negotiations rather than continued open-ended support.
