President Donald Trump announced Monday that he personally delivered his family Bible to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., during remarks in which he emphasized his administration’s commitment to defending Judeo-Christian values.

“The Bible is also an important part of the American story, that’s why I’m delighted to announce that just moments ago, I personally delivered the Trump family Bible, given to me by my mother,” Trump said while addressing the White House Religious Liberty Commission.

“I remember the time she gave it to me. It was used in both my inaugurations and also displayed at the museum.”

Trump continued by noting the significance of the donation.

“And I guess it will now be displayed right in the heart of our nation’s capital, right here. And that’s an honor,” he said.

The announcement was made during the commission’s second public meeting, which centered on “Religious Liberty in Public Education.”

The president also revealed a new initiative from his administration designed to strengthen religious freedom in schools.

“I’m pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools,” Trump said, drawing approval from those in attendance.

While he did not provide details of the directive, Department of Education officials confirmed their support for the plan.

“Free exercise of religion is a founding principle and a constitutionally protected right afforded to all citizens of our great nation,” Education Department press secretary Savannah Newhouse said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

“The Department of Education looks forward to supporting President Trump’s vision to promote religious liberty in our schools across the country.”

Trump highlighted additional actions taken by his administration on issues of concern to religious conservatives.

He cited his executive orders limiting healthcare access for transgender surgeries and restricting transgender participation in women’s sports.

Both moves had been central priorities during the 2024 campaign season.

The president also addressed the Johnson Amendment, a decades-old provision in the tax code that bars religious nonprofit organizations from engaging directly in political campaigns.

“I got rid of a very sinister thing, the Johnson Amendment,” Trump told the audience.

He then criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, saying his administration had targeted religious believers.

“Upon taking office, I also ended the weaponization of law enforcement against religious believers and pardoned the pro-life activists thrown in jail by Joe Biden,” Trump said.

The White House Religious Liberty Commission, established during Trump’s second term, is designed to advance the administration’s policies on faith-based freedoms and related issues.

Monday’s gathering drew a number of prominent evangelical leaders and longtime allies of the president.

Those in attendance included Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who serves as the commission’s chairman; former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, the commission’s vice chairman; Pastor Franklin Graham; Pastor Paula White; and television host Phil McGraw.

Trump’s announcement at the meeting underscored his administration’s ongoing efforts to expand religious liberty protections and highlighted his ties to evangelical supporters who played a significant role in his return to the White House in 2024.

The display of his family Bible at the Museum of the Bible adds to those efforts, symbolizing what he described as a continuing commitment to defending faith in American public life.
