President Donald Trump met with a group of military veterans and their families at the White House Wednesday evening, during which he signed several executive orders related to veterans’ services and accountability.

During the meeting, Trump shared a light moment after noticing a prosthetic leg bearing a reference to a widely known slogan mocking Joe Biden.

The slogan, “Let’s Go Brandon,” originated in October 2021 after an NBC Sports reporter at the Talladega Superspeedway mischaracterized a chant from the crowd directed at then-President Biden.

The crowd was chanting “F**k Joe Biden,” which the reporter claimed was “Let’s go Brandon” in support of NASCAR driver Brandon Brown.

The phrase quickly gained traction as a euphemism used by critics of the Biden administration.

During Wednesday’s event in the Oval Office, Trump met with wounded veterans and their families, many of whom voiced support for the restoration of key Department of Veterans Affairs initiatives from his first term, including the VA Accountability Act and the Mission Act, which expanded access to community-based healthcare.

Sarah, the wife of one of the veterans in attendance, was invited to speak during the meeting. She shared a personal account of her husband’s experience navigating the VA healthcare system.

“Alex here earlier was saying in the last few years when he’s gone to get a wheelchair, the VA has asked him… to prove that he still has his injuries, as though maybe his limbs would grow back,” Sarah said. “And they unfortunately did not.”

“We’ve seen that many times,” she added. “So we’re excited for you bringing back the VA accountability MISSION Act community care that were the hallmark of your first term.”

As Trump thanked the attendees and prepared to present commemorative medals to the veterans, he noticed something unusual on one veteran’s prosthetic leg and asked about the image displayed on it.

“Thank you. Who’s that picture on there?” Trump asked.

“That is Joe Biden, and it says, ‘Let’s go, Brandon,’” the veteran replied.

The room erupted in laughter, including President Trump and several members of the veteran group.

Sarah jokingly added, “I told him he wasn’t allowed to ask you to sign it.”

Trump responded with a smile, thanking the group and opening the floor.

“That’s very good. Well, thank you all very much. Would you like to say anything, fellas? There’s a big chance you have a lot of good people watching that believe in you. They happen to be the media, but they believe very much in you like I do.”

One veteran took the opportunity to thank the President directly, expressing gratitude for the support shown to service members during Trump’s time in office.

At the conclusion of the visit, Trump presented each veteran with a medal, recognizing their sacrifice and service.

The meeting comes amid continued scrutiny of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In December 2024, a group of 24 veterans filed a formal complaint against then-VA Secretary Denis McDonough, alleging a “concerted and strategic effort” to delay access to medical care for injured veterans under the previous administration.

Wednesday’s Oval Office gathering marked another step in the administration’s ongoing push to restore programs aimed at improving care for veterans and increasing accountability within the VA system.
