President Donald Trump has taken further action against 50 former intelligence officials who signed a letter ahead of the 2020 election suggesting that Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.
According to a memo obtained by The Daily Wire, Trump has now barred these individuals from accessing secure U.S. government facilities, expanding an executive order issued on his first day back in office.

The Jan. 29 memorandum instructs federal agencies to revoke unescorted access to secure government facilities for the individuals named in the executive order.
The document states, “These individuals no longer possess a need to access secure facilities, and as outlined in the Executive Order, do not have the appropriate security clearances to access classified information.”
Among those affected are former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, and former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

These officials were among the 50 signatories of an October 2020 letter that cast doubt on the legitimacy of Hunter Biden’s laptop, despite lacking concrete evidence.
The letter, which surfaced weeks before the presidential election, claimed the laptop bore “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”

While the signatories admitted they had no direct proof, the letter was widely used to discredit The New York Post’s reporting on the laptop’s contents.
The story was suppressed on social media, and then-candidate Joe Biden cited the letter during a presidential debate to dismiss concerns over his son’s foreign business dealings.
Subsequent investigations confirmed the authenticity of the laptop and its contents.
Critics have argued that the suppression of the story may have influenced the outcome of the 2020 election.
Trump’s executive order initially revoked the security clearances of 50 former intelligence officials, while most references to the Hunter Biden letter cite 51 signatories.
It remains unclear why there is a discrepancy between the numbers.
The move to bar these officials from secure federal facilities adds another layer of consequences for those who signed the letter.
Trump’s action signals an ongoing effort to address what he has called election interference by intelligence officials who helped shape the narrative around Hunter Biden’s laptop.
This latest order further underscores Trump’s stance against officials he believes misled the public in the run-up to the 2020 election.
