Washington, D.C. — Education Secretary Linda McMahon was interrupted by clown music during a speech on Wednesday.
At least five speakers were discovered hidden around the room where hundreds of students were gathered to hear McMahon’s speech at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C., during a Young America’s Foundation conference. The secretary was interrupted for several minutes by what appeared to be circus music.
“Apparently the CCP didn’t like that, they’re cutting into our technology,” YAF President Governor Scott Walker, who appeared alongside McMahon during the fireside chat, said at the time when the event was first interrupted by unidentified audio.
“We’re getting a little feedback,” McMahon said.

The disruption began less than 15 minutes into the speech when McMahon was discussing the administration’s plans to dismantle the Department of Education (ED) and continued periodically throughout the 45-minute speech. At first, the interruption appeared to be unidentifiable audio but eventually evolved into some sort of circus music.
“The wonders of hacking. Apparently in the world of free speech, these folks on campus have dealt with this before. If liberals don’t like your ideas, they try to shut you down,” Walker said, addressing the students in the room. “Even here on this stage, we’re not going to back down from the truth. That’s what folks do when they have poor ideas, they just try to power over everybody else.”
The two continued the conversation unfazed by any further disruptions.
“This afternoon a joyless, sore-loser leftist sought to silence the 13th Secretary of Education Linda McMahon during her fireside chat with YAF President Governor Scott Walker at our National Conservative Student Conference,” Spencer Brown, YAF’s chief communications officer, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Just as on college campuses, the left’s noise failed to delay or stop YAF and its students from spreading freedom’s principles or celebrating the many conservative wins being achieved by Sec. McMahon and the Trump administration.”
ED did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.

Following the speech, staff at the conference discovered at least five bluetooth speakers covered in black fabric hidden around the stage and beneath desks throughout the room. It is not known who is responsible for the speakers, but security was not aware of any unapproved individuals entering the conference space. One of the speakers was also discovered alongside a note that appears to read “vox clamantis,” a Latin phrase meaning “a voice crying.”
