Elon Musk appeared to signal a possible cooling of tensions with President Donald Trump on Monday, days after a very public breakdown in their once-strong relationship, as reported by The New York Post.
The shift came after Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, offered conciliatory remarks. “We had a great relationship and I wish him well — very well, actually,” the president said.
The comment was reposted by political influencer ALX on X, where Musk responded with a single heart emoji, suggesting the two may be moving past recent disputes.

Trump’s Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?
The falling out between the president and the Tesla and SpaceX CEO had escalated earlier this month. In late May, Musk criticized the One Big Beautiful Bill Act during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, voicing concern over its projected $3 trillion addition to the federal deficit.
He later intensified his opposition, calling the bill “outrageous,” “pork-filled,” and a “disgusting abomination,” and encouraged Republicans to “kill the bill.”

The situation escalated further on June 5 when Musk took to X to claim credit for Trump’s 2024 election victory and accused the administration of withholding information related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation to protect Trump. Musk later deleted those posts.
Another point of contention came when Trump rescinded the nomination of Jared Isaacman—an ally of Musk’s—to lead NASA. Musk responded with frustration, even threatening to take the Dragon spacecraft offline.
Dragon currently serves as the government’s primary method for transporting astronauts into orbit. Musk later reversed his threat.

In response to Musk’s criticism, Trump remarked that Musk had “gone crazy,” had “lost his mind,” and indicated that he was considering halting government contracts with Musk’s companies.
Despite the heated exchange, Musk has continued to engage with posts from Trump and his allies.
He recently reposted a Truth Social message from President Trump that criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of ongoing riots in Los Angeles.

“Governor Gavin Newscum [sic] and ‘Mayor’ [Karen] Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they’ve done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots,” Trump wrote.
Musk also shared a message from Vice President JD Vance, who vowed federal action in response to the unrest. “This moment calls for decisive leadership,” Vance stated. “The president will not tolerate rioting and violence.”
It remains to be seen whether the once-close relationship between Musk and Trump will fully recover, but the recent online gestures suggest the two may be stepping back from further conflict.
