President Donald Trump said Friday that his administration is weighing a new federal crime crackdown in Chicago, citing the success of similar efforts in Washington, D.C.

Speaking in the Oval Office during an event announcing the FIFA World Cup drawing, Trump said the federal government’s public safety initiatives in the nation’s capital could serve as a model for other cities facing high levels of violent crime, including Chicago and New York.

“And after we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also. We’re going to make our country very safe. We’re going to make our cities very, very safe,” Trump said.

“Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent.”

Trump said federal efforts in Chicago would follow the pattern already underway in Washington.

“We’ll straighten that one out, probably next. That’ll be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough. And the people in Chicago, Mr. Vice President, are screaming for us to come. They’re wearing red hats just like this one,” Trump added.

The president emphasized that residents of Chicago have been calling for intervention.

He specifically noted that black women have reached out to him directly.

“African American ladies, beautiful ladies, are saying, ‘Please, President Trump, come to Chicago. Please.’ I did great with the black vote, as you know, and they want something to happen. So I think Chicago will be our next, and then we’ll help with New York,” he told reporters.

Trump’s remarks come after he ordered federal control of law enforcement operations in Washington, D.C. earlier this month.

The decision, enacted 11 days ago, led to a measurable decline in crime across the city, according to data from the Metropolitan Police Department reviewed by Breitbart News.

The statistics show steep reductions in several categories of violent crime when comparing the 11 days after the federal takeover, from August 11 to August 22, with the 11 days prior, July 31 to August 11.

Carjackings were down 83 percent, motor vehicle thefts dropped 37 percent, robberies fell 52 percent, all violent crime declined 40 percent, and homicides were reduced by 50 percent during the period.

DC crime since the announcement of federal control versus the 7 days prior:

Robbery ⬇️46%
ADW ⬇️6%
Carjacking ⬇️83%
Car Theft ⬇️21%
Violent Crime ⬇️22%
Property Crime ⬇️6%
All Crimes⬇️8%

The president said these results reflect what federal intervention can achieve in restoring order.

He pointed to Chicago as the next city where such measures could be applied, given persistent reports of high crime and growing public pressure for outside assistance.

Trump also mentioned New York as another likely candidate for a future initiative, saying his administration will continue expanding public safety efforts in cities across the country.

The developments highlight the administration’s broader focus on urban crime, with Trump repeatedly pointing to federal involvement as a solution for cities he claims have struggled under local leadership.

Chicago, long criticized for its high crime rates, has been a frequent target of Trump’s calls for stronger law enforcement measures.

The proposed federal intervention in Chicago, if carried out, would represent the latest escalation of Trump’s law-and-order agenda, following the D.C. operation that his administration credits for cutting crime in less than two weeks.

As Trump signaled Friday, his administration intends to keep expanding the approach, with Chicago at the top of the list.
