Trump Files Suit Against Murdoch Over WSJ Epstein Story

President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against billionaire Rupert Murdoch on Friday over The Wall Street Journal’s allegations that the president had written deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein a suggestive letter.

The WSJ released a story Thursday alleging the president wrote Epstein a letter in 2003 with the outline of a “naked woman” on it, an accusation Trump has denied. According to court records, Trump filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida against Rupert Murdoch, Dow Jones & Company Inc., News Corporation and the two WSJ reporters who authored the piece.

“I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his ‘pile of garbage’ newspaper, the WSJ. That will be an interesting experience!!!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Friday.

In response to the lawsuit, a Dow Jones spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation they have “full confidence” in their reporting.

“We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit,” the spokesperson said.

According to the WSJ, the outlet allegedly obtained documents of birthday letters to Epstein from 2003, with Trump’s among them. The letter to Epstein, which had been reviewed by the WSJ, reportedly included Trump’s alleged “bawdy” signature along with several lines of typewritten text. The text was allegedly framed by the outline of a “naked woman,” appearing to be “hand-drawn with a heavy marker,” as Trump allegedly signed below the drawing’s waist. The letter concluded with, “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret,” according to the WSJ.

In response to the outlet’s allegations, Trump told the WSJ that it wasn’t him, calling the letter a “fake thing” and the story itself fake, before threatening to sue.

“I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women,” Trump told The WSJ. “It’s not my language. It’s not my words.”

“I’m gonna sue The WSJ just like I sued everyone else,” Trump added.

Trump later took to Truth Social Thursday evening in a separate response to the story, stating that both Murdoch and the WSJ had been “directly” warned about running the piece. Additionally, Trump called out WSJ editor-in-chief Emma Tucker, writing that he and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had personally told her the alleged letter was not real.

“Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly,” Trump wrote. “The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist. President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal.”

Trump’s friendship with Epstein has been documented in the past, with Trump praising the deceased pedophile prior to Epstein’s first criminal charges in 2006. According to The Washington Post, Trump and Epstein had split ways by 2004, reportedly rivaling over a Palm Beach property.

After first being charged in 2006 in Florida with felony solicitation of prostitution, Epstein struck a plea deal in 2007 after a grand jury indicted him on one count of felony solicitation. By 2019, Epstein had been arrested in New York and charged with sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors.

While in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center for just over a month, Epstein was found deceased in his cell in August 2019, with officials declaring his death a suicide.

Questions surrounding Epstein’s case returned to the media spotlight in July, after the Department of Justice quietly released a memo stating the FBI had found no “client list” and no foul play in Epstein’s death. Republicans quickly pushed back, as Attorney General Pam Bondi had vowed full transparency on the remaining “Epstein files” and the names involved in his business.

While repeatedly defending Bondi amid calls for her resignation, Trump announced Thursday that he had asked Bondi to “produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval” regarding Epstein’s case. Bondi responded on X, stating that the DOJ is “ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.”
