President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he is considering deploying nearly 90,000 newly hired Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents to the U.S.-Mexico border.
This statement comes just days after he issued an indefinite hiring freeze on the federal agency.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters at the Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Trump addressed the controversial expansion of the IRS, which was funded by $72 billion under the Inflation Reduction Act.

“They hired, or tried to hire, 88,000 workers to go after you, and we’re in the process of developing a plan to either terminate all of them, or maybe we’ll move them to the border,” Trump said.
He continued, “I think we’re going to move them to the border where they are allowed to carry guns. You know, they’re so strong on guns. But these people are allowed to carry guns. So we will probably move them to the border.”

The president, now serving his second term, began his administration with a series of executive actions, including a federal hiring freeze for most government agencies.
This 90-day freeze, however, excludes positions related to national security, public safety, and the military.
The IRS, specifically, will not be permitted to hire new agents during this period as Trump’s administration, along with the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), evaluates future staffing needs.
In addition to the hiring freeze, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border.
His administration plans to focus on border security by reallocating resources and potentially repurposing federal employees.
The president also outlined plans to create an external revenue office tasked with collecting tariffs and other foreign-sourced revenue.

Trump has long advocated for leveraging tariffs as a tool to protect American interests and enforce immigration policies.
He announced that beginning February 1, countries like Mexico and Canada that fail to cooperate with U.S. immigration initiatives could face a 25% tariff.
Moreover, Trump intends to impose a 10% to 20% tariff on all foreign goods and a tariff of up to 60% on Chinese imports.

The IRS and Income Tax is COMING TO AN END in America!
The External Revenue Service was the first step to achieve this goal.

These measures, he stated, will generate substantial revenue to replace traditional taxation.

During his inaugural address earlier in the week, Trump declared the start of a “golden age” for America, focusing on trade reform and economic growth.
“I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families,” Trump said.
He emphasized shifting the tax burden away from American citizens, stating, “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens. It will be massive amounts of money pouring into our Treasury – coming from foreign sources. The American dream will soon be back and thriving like never before.”
These sweeping proposals mark the beginning of Trump’s second-term agenda, which prioritizes border security, trade reform, and a reduction in government expansion.
As his administration moves forward, the impact of these policies will likely shape debates on immigration, economic strategy, and federal agency priorities.
